One college summer, I was going through my older brother’s CD collection and discovered Van Morrison. Wow. All I could think was, “How cool is this guy”. His music was a mix of folk, jazz, rock and soul. His voice had that feeling of a life that had certainly lived. When I returned to school that fall, I remember my buddy giving me a difficult time at my new found music choice. His exact words: “Van Morrison? Man, how old are you?” I didn’t care. I took the heat. Van Morrison was pretty amazing. For those not familiar with his music, I encourage you to give him a try. Great music is timeless.
Today’s song on the playlist is Days Like This. It’s so common to hear people talk about their difficult day. You know – “one of those days”. Van Morrison reminds us of our better days.
The laid-back, positive track is a play on the popular expression “one of those days,” used to describe a day when nothing seems to go your way.
Instead of describing a bad day, Morrison flips that idea on its head and describes a day when everything seems to be going just exactly perfect. This message, of course, fits the soothing nature of the arrangement quite well, making “Days Like This” a concoction of glowing energy.
What a great reminder to focus on our better days, our better moments in life. When I’m having a down day, I’ll play this mental track on loop to remind myself that bad days are temporary and there will always be better days ahead.

When it's not always raining there'll be days like this When there's no one complaining there'll be days like this When everything falls into place like the flick of a switch Well my mama told me there'll be days like this When you don't need to worry there'll be days like this When no one's in a hurry there'll be days like this When you don't get betrayed by that old Judas kiss Oh my mama told me there'll be days like this When you don't need an answer there'll be days like this When you don't meet a chancer there'll be days like this When all the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit Then I must remember there'll be days like this When everyone is up front and they're not playing tricks When you don't have no freeloaders out to get their kicks When it's nobody's business the way that you wanna live I just have to remember there'll be days like this When no one steps on my dreams there'll be days like this When people understand what I mean there'll be days like this When you ring out the changes of how everything is Well my mama told me there'll be days like this Oh my mama told me There'll be days like this Oh my mama told me There'll be days like this Oh my mama told me
Van Morrison is comfort music for sure!

When I saw Van Morrison I had to stop. I like Counting Crows and am a fan of several 90s bands. That decade gets a bad rap for music. I mean Collective Soul, Foo Fighters, STP….you get the idea. But VAN MORRISON…1000x yes! I can’t say I have one favorite of his but lately, This Weight comes to mind. I also like his live medley of Moondance and Funny Valentine.

Glad to meet another Van Morrison fan! I think he is timeless. I’m the same way. There are times when one of his songs gets stuck in my head. Right now it’s Tupelo Honey. I’ll check out the medley. I don’t think I’ve heard it yet.

Van Morrison is pretty old school. He’s even a little before my time, but he’s pretty good.
