I’m still pretty new to writing. I started this blog about a month and a half ago as a way to explore my creative side while on sabbatical. I remember staring at a blank page not knowing what to write. I never knew that a silent blinking prompt could become so deafening. Discovering the daily prompt was very helpful. I felt like the lost tourist at the side of the road with an upside down map in hand and the daily prompt graciously asking me if I needed any help. We look at the map together, the daily prompt pokes and prods with a few questions and then suggests a point of interest to explore. As I walk down the road, I put on my air pods, select the playlist to shuffle, then wander until the two eventually intersect. I think this is what I’ve enjoyed about writing so far – the freedom to wander and ultimately finding a connection. Each morning starts afresh, a new mystery on a blank page, destination unknown, waiting to be written. Not every road paved, some not at all. Some strolls take longer than others and many times I find myself tripping and I stumble my way along. But such is life, yeah?
Staring at the blank page before you. Open up the dirty window. Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find. Reaching for something in the distance. So close you can almost taste it.
– Natasha Bedingfield, Unwritten
As I write this, I’m finding a parallel is emerging between writing and life. Each having their own blank page, each patiently waiting for me to choose what is to be written. Wandering. Connections. I think I’ll chew on this for a bit more. I’m beginning to like where this is headed.

I am unwritten, can't read my mind I'm undefined I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand Ending unplanned Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten I break tradition, sometimes my tries Are outside the line We've been conditioned to not make mistakes But I can't live that way Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten The rest is still unwritten The rest is still unwritten
I like the comparison between writing and taking a journey. I’ve often written with pen and pencil, they’re like my walking stick or cane 😌

“Unwritten” is one of my favorite songs by Natasha Bedingfield. I really enjoyed how you made the connection between the song and writing.
