I’m uncomfortable receiving compliments. I don’t know why. My initial response is to deflect. I’ve been better these days. I politely say thank you but still gradually move to change the topic.
Best compliment? Once a friend told me that she thought I always looked to do the right thing. While I try, I’m not always successful. I did appreciate the sentiment and it did make me feel good.
Much of this stems from great advice I received early on. Someone once told me:
When in doubt, do the right thing.
It’s not always easy to gauge the temperature of right or wrong. When faced with this uncertainty, I think about this advice. There is never a short supply of grey, but there is always one option that is overwhelmingly right and undeniably can never be wrong. It’s just difficult when the other grey options are more appealing. At the end of the day, you have to trust your inner voice.
Even though the Moody Blues have been around since the 60’s, I only know one of their songs. The Voice was released in 1993 and is all about listening to your inner voice.
The song emphasizes the importance of listening to the inner voice, or the “voice within,” which serves as a guiding force. The narrator urges the listener to trust their feelings and make a promise or vow to themselves. This suggests a need for introspection and self-reflection, understanding that true change begins from within.

Do I always do the right thing? Do I always listen to my inner voice? Honesty, no. But I lean in that direction more often than not and that’s not too bad. Nobody’s perfect. We only can do the best that we can.

Won't you take me back to school
I need to learn the golden rule
Won't you lay it on the line
I need to hear it just one more time
Oh won't you tell me again
Can you feel it
Won't you tell me again
Tonight
Each and every heart it seems
Is bounded by a world of dreams
Each and every rising sun
Is greeted by a lonely one
Oh won't you tell me again
Can you feel it
Oh won't you tell me again
Tonight
'Cos out on the ocean of life my love
There's so many storms we must rise above
Can you hear the spirit calling
As it's carried across the waves
You're already falling
It's calling you back to face the music
And the song that is coming through
You're already falling
The one that it's calling you
Make a promise take a vow
And trust your feelings it's easy now
Understand the voice within
And feel the changes already beginning
Oh won't you tell me again
Can you feel it
Won't you tell me again
Tonight
And how many words have I got to say
And how many times will it be this way
With your arms around the future
And your back up against the past
You're already falling it's calling you
On to face the music
And the song that is coming through
You're already falling
The one it's calling is you
Each and every heart it seems
Is bounded by a world of dreams
Each and every rising sun
Is greeted by a lonely one
Won't you tell me again
Can you feel it
Oh won't you tell me again
Tonight
Love the Moody Blues, Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Camel, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and others of the progressive rock era.

That’s a wonderful compliment, especially from someone who knows you well. Was she a work friend or a “life” friend? Nice song. I always liked “your wildest dreams” by Moody Blues too.

She was a life friend. It really was a nice compliment.
Oh, ok. I know two from them. I do like your wildest dreams as well. I now suspect I may know a few more from them…

I remember this song well though am not well versed in the Moody Blues’ music.
Going the right thing often comes from intuition though sometimes it’s unclear if it’s the right thing or the thing that feels right. Not always the same!

I know quite a few people who have difficulties taking compliments. You are in good company.

Ah, I remember this song! I didn’t recognize it right away, so I clicked on your link to the song. It’s a great mood booster.
Your friend gave you a wonderful compliment. I try to live by the Golden Rule, but sometimes I am like Paul, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” (There’s a lot of “dos” in there!)

I guess each person can gather their thoughts and feelings as to the meaning. As for me it clearly refers to God. Not only this song but almost, hear me out ALMOST~ all of them reference, I know you’re out there somewhere, the end verses …. The words that I remember
From my childhood still are true
That there’s none so blind
As those who will not see
And to those who lack the courage
And say it’s dangerous to try
Well they just don’t know
That love eternal will not be denied
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere, somewhere
I know you’re out there somewhere
Somewhere you can hear my voice
I know I’ll find you somehow
Somehow, somehow
I know I’ll find you somehow
And somehow, I’ll return again to you
Maybe it’s just me…… and that’s just one of many I could list.
