My Gen X Playlist: Creep – Stone Temple Pilots

I admire social media influencers who are unafraid to spill their entire life stories online. I think it’s brave and bold, but definitely not my style. I don’t dislike social media, that’s not why I don’t play along. I just prefer to stay under the radar. When Facebook first came out, I waited on the sidelines for years. Then I thought, Why not? and created a profile. Buyer’s remorse quickly set in and I deleted it within five minutes.

I’m on LinkedIn because I feel it’s a necessity because of work. I did create an Instagram account not too long ago out of sheer curiosity. I’ve surpassed the five minute mark long ago, so I’ll call that progress. And now I have this anonymous blog here on WordPress. Well, not entirely anonymous. I did tell a friend, so I’ll say 99.9% anonymous. Maybe that’s another tiny step towards progress. Let’s see, at this rate…

Of course I Google myself. Who doesn’t? There are a number of my namesakes out there. One guy is a dentist in Los Angeles. He only stands out in my mind because I randomly met his mom at a blackjack table in Las Vegas. We struck up a conversation and were surprised that her son and I share the same name. I jokingly called her mom, but she smiled, patted me on the shoulder and replied, “Oh no, my dear. My son is a dentist. You’re not.” Burn. That entertained the entire table. She was a funny lady.

I was thinking about same names, then songs with the same names. I’ve already added Creep by Radiohead to the playlist. I think I’ll add Creep by the Stone Temple Pilots as well. Similar, but not really. Both are good songs. At least it’s not a case where one is a dentist and the other one not. We’ve already seen how that story ends.
