There used to be a buffer between when I finished a long day from work and I walked through the front door. Nobody likes a commute in traffic, but at least I had forty five minutes to properly release the stress from the day. When I started working from home, I only had a one minute descent down the stairs. This is not near enough time to decompress. So while I can come up with a long list of pros for working from home, I’m sure my wife has a small collection for the cons side. After all, she sees me everyday. When I start work again, I’ll need to work on this one a bit more.
I found this obscure list of best driving songs for your commute. It seems somewhat of a random list, but I found an honorable mention song that I liked – Midnight Train to Georgia. This was originally performed by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Although I do like the original version, I discovered the Indigo Girls’ cover back in 1995 and have mainly listened to this version. I’m not sure if I’d categorize this as a commuter song, but that’s OK. It’s a great tune.

L.A. proved too much for the man
(Too much for the man)
(He couldn't make it)
So he's leaving the life he's come to know
(He said he's going)
He said he's going back to find
(Going back to find)
What's left of his world
The world he left behind
Not so very long ago
Oh yeah
He's leaving
(Leaving)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train)
Oh yeah
Oh y'all
Said he's going back to find
(He's going back to find)
A simpler place and time
(And when he takes that ride)
Yes he is
(Guess who's gonna be right by his side)
I'll be with him
(I know you will)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train to Georgia)
(Whoo whoo)
I'd rather live in his world
(Live in his world)
Than live without him in mine
(World, world)
(It's his, his and hers alone)
He kept dreaming
(Dreaming)
That one day he'd be a star
(A superstar but he didn't get far)
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true
(Dreams don't always come true)
Oh no
(Uh uh no uh uh)
So he sold all his hopes
And he even sold his own car
And bought a one way ticket back
To the life that he once knew
Oh yes he did
He said he would
I know he's leaving
(Leaving)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train)
Oh yeah
Oh y'all
Said he's going back to find
(He's going back to find)
A simpler place and time
(And when he takes that ride)
Yes he is
(Guess who's gonna be right by his side)
I've got to be with him
(I know you will)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on the midnight train to Georgia)
(Whoo whoo)
I'd rather live in his world
(Live in his world)
Than live without him in mine
(World, world)
(It's his, his and hers alone)
He's leaving
(He's leaving)

(Leaving on a midnight train to Georgia)
(Whoo whoo)
I'd rather live in his world
(Live in his world)
Than live without him in mine
(World, world)
(Is his, his and hers alone)
(World is his, his and hers alone)
(All aboard)
(One world)
(Her man, his girl)
I've got to go
(All aboard)
I've got to go
(One world)
I've got to go
(Her man, his girl)
I've got to go
(All aboard)
I've got to go

I've got to go right now

When my husband first started working from home owing to pandemic things, it was a haaaaaard adjustment for me as i was used to being home alone while he was at work and kepler was at school. 3 years later i think i have adjusted. I quoted Bella from Poor Things the other day about the value of having time apart so as not to grow stale. i agree.

Yes, the change in environment must not have been easy! Covid created so many changes. It pushed our limits in so many ways!

Interesting list! I think some of those songs would’ve helped with my commuter road rage, but some would’ve have exacerbated. Love the Indigo Girls.

I agree! It’s an interesting collection of songs. I think my road rage is decreasing as I get older!

Mine definitely decreased when the mandatory commute ended during Covid

That IS an obscure list! I kind of love it though. 🤣
I love the song Midnight Train to Georgia. Have you ever heard the backstory on the original? It’s pretty cool…

Thanks for the link!
First of all, the inspiration being Faucett and the six million dollar man is awesome! I always thought the Gladys Knight version was the original. I just listened to the Houston version. I did like the harmonica, that was a nice touch. But you just can’t beat the soulfulness of Gladys Knight.
Thanks again. I really enjoyed this.

My work schedule is hybrid.I love working from home 3 days a week! I spend a lot of time with my kids for sure! But I love the two days in the office. It gives me a chance to see the world.
Love the song! 👍🏼

Love that song and never knew the Indigo Girls did a cover of it. I’ll definitely check this out.

I was pleasantly surprised when I bought an indigo girls live CD back in the 90s. I really like cover versions.
