I used to be that guy that wouldn’t schedule an appointment and just throw caution to the wind and do the walk in thing. I’m so glad I’ve changed my ways. The other day, LabCorp and the DMV were both crowded as hell. Both were total zoos. It felt like I was in a cattle call. Thank goodness you can teach this old dog new tricks.
Back in the day, I didn’t give crowds a second thought. A jam packed DMV? It would roll off my back – no big deal. Having survived the Covid lockdown, I now sometimes listen to the voice in my head when I hear a cough or a sneeze in a crowded room. I’m by no means paranoid. I’m up to date on my shots so I figure I’m relatively safe. But I’m still playing the odds in my head of the what ifs. The last thing I want is to be sick or bedridden on a beautiful sunny day. No more crowded rooms for the rest of the summer. I’ve got pool time to attend to.
Crowded House released Something So Strong in 1986. They simply named their band based upon their living conditions at the time.
. . . Crowded House, which formed after the New Zealand group Split Enz, well, split. This was 1985; group members Neil Finn and Paul Hester (drums) teamed with Nick Seymour (bass) to form a new group, which they named Crowded House during the making of their first album – they were living together in a very tight space while working on the album in Los Angeles, thus the band name.

I could have pulled Don’t Dream it’s Over, but I felt like a more upbeat, happier song for today. Enjoy.

Love can make you weep
Can make you run for cover
Roots that spread so deep
Bring life to frozen ground
Something so strong
Could carry us away
Something so strong
Could carry us today
Turning in my sleep
Love can leave you cold
A taste of jealousy
Is like a lust for gold
Something so strong
Could carry us away
Something so strong
Could carry us today
I've been
Feeling so much older
Frame me
And hang me on the wall
I've seen
You fall into the same trap
This thing
Is happening to us all
Something so strong
Could carry us away
Something so strong
Could carry us today
Something so strong....
Love both of those songs!

I find that the older I get, the less patience I have for crowds and standing in line. I’ve already paid my dues waiting. I wonder how many hours the average person spends in their lifetime waiting their turn?
I enjoy the upbeat song! Great for a Friday! 😁

A GenX classic. Great song. I didn’t realize they were Kiwis!

I also didn’t know they came from Split Enz!

Must-do things have so more options and accommodations now. It’s really fantastic.

It really is. I only waited a half hour instead of hours on end…

Someone coming of age now wouldn’t have any idea why this is such a big deal to the rest of us. 🙂
