I needed to call a California government agency the other day. I preferred to speak to a live person and not an automated call loop. While waiting, I was given the option to add my name to the list and they would call me back in the order that the call was received. Now, skeptical me has been down a similar road before. I once opted for a call back and my phone never rang. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, well that’s on me. But here is the tricky part. The anticipated hold time was three hours. I wanted to resolve this issue that day so I hit option 1 and immediately was thrown into a sea of on hold music.
I will say, that estimated time was spot on. I waited on hold for three hours. Thank god for AirPods. I managed to read the news, do the dishes, pay the bills, make lunch and caught up reading blog posts while I waited. Now, I did have one concern. I’ve waited a lifetime on hold before only to be disconnected when the live person clicks over. This thought began to sneak into my head just after the two hour mark.
To my surprise, the customer service representative was polite, helpful and was able to answer my questions. Our call lasted all of five minutes max. But it was worth it. Too bad I wasn’t redirected to a survey. I’d give that guy 10 out of 10 high marks.
I hate to think where I’d be if I opted for the call back. I’d still probably be waiting by the phone for them to call me.
Blondie released Call Me in 1980. Once again, I was oblivious to the meaning behind the song. I mean, I had a hint, but never connected the dots.
This song is about a prostitute. It was written for the film American Gigolo, where it plays in a scene where the lead character is “working.”
Well, needless to say, that’s a totally different call back service. Maybe not for me. I think I’ll pass.

Colour me your colour, baby
Colour me your car
Colour me your colour, darling
I know who you are
Come up off your colour chart
I know where you're comin' from
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) my love
You can call me any day or night
Call me
Cover me with kisses, baby
Cover me with love
Roll me in designer sheets
I'll never get enough
Emotions come, I don't know why
Cover up love's alibi
Call me (call me) on the line
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) oh my love
When you're ready we can share the wine
Call me
Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo, he speaks the languages of love
Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo, amore, chiamami, chiamami
Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo, appelle-moi mon cherie, appelle-moi
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, any way
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, any day-ay
Call me (call me) my love
Call me, call me any, anytime
Call me (call me) for a ride
Call me, call me for some overtime
Call me (call me) my love
Call me, call me in a sweet design
Call me (call me), call me for your lover's lover's alibi

That’s a long time to be on hold. I had no idea Call Me was released that long ago. I was in my senior year of high school! I probably ought to go to the store and buy some Geritol. If they still make it, that is.

Hahaha… that’s funny. I remember Geritol as a kid. We are in the same boat.

The commercials were probably during The Lawrence Welk show. I just found the page “1970s American variety television series” on Wikipedia. I was surprised how many shows were listed.

3 hrs? i have absolutely no patience for that– and would probably forget i was even on hold. i always opt for the call-back option 🙂 … which has worked well for me in the past!

The ‘call you back’ option has always worked brilliantly for me – especially when calling the federal gov’t…I’ve never had occasion to call the state government – 3 hours on hold? I have no words…

Maybe you’ve given me a little encouragement to give it a try again.

Wow! I would’ve opted for the call back.
Having worked in a call center, though, I can tell you that every now and then it does happen where your call just gets lost/disconnected in the queue.

Yeah, I get it. I don’t fault the call center. There is massive call volume, nothing is perfect.

Deborah Harry was so cool. I love how the top comment is “Better than Taylor Swift.” 😂

Ah, I didn’t see that comment. That is pretty cool…. I’ll have to show my wife. She went to the Swift concert and is a now a Swifty, but she also likes Blondie. I’m sure she will get a kick out of it, too!

That reminds me of calling the IRS! You wait on hold forever, only to be transferred from person to person, where you have to keep repeating your story from the beginning. I’m glad that you got your question answered and had a good experience. I don’t think I would last three hours on hold.

I once tried calling the IRS. I couldn’t get a live person and was trapped in the call option loop!
