I have to admit, I enjoyed the WordPress daily prompts. Sure, sometime the questions were questionable at best, but it still provided an avenue to write everyday. WordPress limited their daily prompts to a year and I blew past that a while ago.
A kind reader suggested the daily prompts from coffeemonsterzco. I think I may give them a try. Will I write daily? Probably not. I may even randomly choose some from the past instead of following them day by day. It seems like a good alternative to WordPress. Feel free to join me if you find yourself in similar shoes.
I looked up the top alternative rock songs of the 90’s. I already had Nivana’s number one on the playlist. An REM song came in at number two, but I have a lot of REM songs and was looking for something different. So I chose the third place finisher, Wonderwall by Oasis.
The general consensus is that this song is about Noel Gallagher’s then-girlfriend Meg Mathews. . . “It’s about my girlfriend. She was out of work, and that, a bit down on her luck, so it’s just saying, ‘Cheer up and f—in get on with it.'” Noel later married then divorced Meg Mathews.
However, according to Q magazine’s 1001 Best Songs Ever, this was not about Mathews. Noel is quoted as saying, “The meaning of that song was taken away from me by the media who jumped on it. And how do you tell your Mrs. it’s not about her once she’s read it is? It’s about an imaginary friend who’s going to come and save you from yourself.”
Thank God I don’t have to worry about upsetting WordPress’ feelings. Yeah, I know I came out of the gate today with my first sentence stating I liked her. But if you review the timeline, she’s the one that cut me off after 365 days. If she’d only come up with some new material, I’d be back in a heartbeat.

Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do, about you now
Backbeat, the word was on the street
That the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now
And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I
Would like to say to you, but I don't know how
Because maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall
Today was gonna be the day
But they'll never throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you're not to do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do, about you now
And all the roads that lead you there were winding
And all the lights that light the way are blinding
There are many things that I
Would like to say to you, but I don't know how
I said maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall
I said maybe (I said maybe)
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, you're my wonderwall
I said maybe (I said maybe)
You're gonna be the one that saves me (saves me)
You're gonna be the one that saves me (saves me)
You're gonna be the one that saves me (saves me)
I’m cut off too. ☹️ There are plenty of writing prompts out there, but it was fun to read all the different takes on the same one on the same day.
Are you safe from the fires?? So scary to us East Coasters who have never seen such a thing!

Yes, sharing the same prompt definitely made it more fun.
Thanks for your concern. We moved from Pasadena a few years ago, so we are safe. I do know a number of people who have lost their homes. It’s devastating

You read my mind! I was just about to post another rant about the repetitive daily prompts. I may have to check out your alternative for new writing prompts. Love the song… it’s a classic that always brings back memories of the 90’s.

Give them a try. It might be interesting. It helps with writers block, too!

I blew past WordPress’s daily working prompts a while ago myself.
I was checking out the site you suggested and may start using those myself.
I think I’ll co-op WordPress’s daily prompt that’s, just to keep bringing me traffic.
I hope all is well. Stay safe!

It gives a little nudge for a writing topic. Thanks for the note. Yes, staying safe.

Ooh. the alternative daily prompts is interesing. I might give it a try. Thank you for letting us know.
And I do love Oasis. Was the band I listened to a lot when I was young (not quite a genX, but an older millenial who shared a lot in common with younger genX)

I have heard so many references to this song in multiple arenas but have never really known it. i don’t think I figures out the transition from radio/cd to whatever came next, so I probably missed a lot of popular songs in the 90’s. I’ll check out that site you linked to. I wondered what I would do after the prompts ended and a path gradually revealed itself. I sure enjoy your posts.

Thanks, Susan. It seems like a lot of blogger friends are in the same boat to with the prompts. This might help with writing inspirations

Those prompts at coffeemonsterzco are a horse of a different color, which is to say, thought-provoking and potentially fun to answer. I saw a bunch that are nothing like with JP tends to come up with. (sorry, JP, we love ya)

Lol. We love JP, but it needs to help us out here!

I agree. I found the WordPress prompts for the first time last year. I was looking forward to participating in the #bloganuary prompts again this year only to learn they don’t change the questions.

Me, too! I was anticipating bloganuary, and was a little disappointed!

If there is one song that sends my wife screaming from the room, it’s this one. If it was about her, I don’t know what she’d do 😂!!

Lol! That gave me a good laugh this morning!

Oooh thankyou. Shall check out that site for the prompts.
Whenever I see Wonderwall, my mind would go Wallflowers 😒.
I hope you’re not close to the fires.

Huh. I thought the prompts were endless, I’m still seeing them after all this time… do you use the Jetpack app? They’re on there.

And nice song choice; I like some of the Gallaghers’ stuff…

I only know a handful of their music. Only stuff they played on the radio. I may have one CD. Maybe I should look into them more.

It looks like they have a years worth and then it loops back and repeats. Too bad.
