My Gen X Playlist: Green Grows the Rushes – REM

  1. I feel this way about the melody and chorus to Watchhouse’s (Mandolin Orange’s) Old Ties and Companions. I think that song is about the civil war, but it makes me miss old friend like crazy. And man were pink Oxford cloth shirts in at my east coast prep school! I even had one, and it went with my vaguely pink kilt. No joke.

      1. Nah, our uniform was just skirts and collared shirts as long as they looked dressy. Khakis and ties for guys. Kilts are like any other skirt when you pin the front together with a kilt pin. Just make sure it’s an Izod pin! 🐊

    1. Hahaha… now that I think about it, I vaguely remember a polo shirt (with the color up?) under the Oxford shirt. I don’t remember two oxfords – I wonder if one of them had to be a size bigger to pull that one off.

  2. I wore pink socks with bunnies on em the left sock says some bunny, the right says loves you. Wore em.proud to work put too. My wife got em for me. Our pet names for each other bunny..honestly I only hear Matt when she is really pissed off, which thankfully isn’t often 🥰😁

  3. Yes, “preppy-lite” sounds accurate. We had some Californians at my very preppy college. I remember one breezy dude from Newport Beach. Obviously from a wealthy family, but he projected nowhere near the level of PSD (private school douchebag) as his East Coast friends.

Another good REM song for the playlist…from the heart of the 80s 😊

  4. I’m working myself backwards, catching up. I should get to Mary’s post soon, hopefully. 🙂 Somehow I found this song cleansing tonight.
