We used to celebrate every New Year’s Eve in Vegas. Gambling, free drinks, friends, lasting memories. Those were the days. I remember Y2K, everybody was worried about the end of the world. Us? Vegas. If we are going out, we were going to go out with a bang. In the end, it was anti-climactic, but in a good way.
Fast forward 30 years, we met friends for an early dinner last night. Our friend texted us (and I quote)
Let’s meet for an early dinner. That will give us enough time to get home before the crazies come out at night.
The thing is, I agreed with her, nodding my head as I read her text. My season of partying on New Year’s Eve has long passed. And I’m fine with that. It reminds me of a promise we all made long ago. We never wanted to be that old guy at the club. Kind of the same thing here. Sometimes you have to stroll with the changing season. This year we enjoyed a mellow evening counting down the new year.
I was thinking about fun New Year’s Eve songs and the Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling came to mind. Will.i.am explains the inspiration of the song.
In 2010, Will.i.am told Rolling Stone: “What is the easiest emotion to act? Anger. What is the hardest? Joy. That’s ’cause joy is complex. It’s somber, sad, happy, heartbroken, hopeful – it’s all these emotions in one. What you hear in ‘I Got A Feeling’? To me, that’s joy. You’re in pain, but tonight’s going to be a good night. You can’t feel happy when you’ve been pissed off the whole week. You have to go straight to joy.”
Will went on to explain that he wrote the song within an hour after standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the inauguration of President Obama. Said Will: “Nobody asked me to write ‘I Gotta Feeling.’ It just came.”
I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good night
That tonight’s gonna be a good, good night
Hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve. Wishing everyone joy and happiness for the new year!

I gotta feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
A feeling, woohoo, that tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
Tonight's the night, let's live it up
I got my money, let's spend it up
Go out and smash it like oh my God
Jump off that sofa, let's get, get off
I know that we'll have a ball
If we get down and go out and just lose it all
I feel stressed out, I wanna let it go
Let's go way out spaced out and losing all control
Fill up my cup, Mazel Tov
Look at her dancing, just take it off
Let's paint the town, we'll shut it down
Let's burn the roof, and then we'll do it again
Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it, let's do it
And do it and do it, let's live it up
And do it and do it and do it, do it, do it
Let's do it, let's do it, let's do it
'Cause I gotta feeling, woohoo
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night
A feeling, woohoo, that tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good night
That tonight's gonna be a good, good night

Aww I loved the Black Eyed Peas!! Took my 3 older kids to see them in concert when they were small, it was so fun!

When I saw ‘black-eyed peas’ in the title I thought “Ah, old New Year’s Day tradition” – I was wrong. Two food traditions for New Year’s Day – pork, to ensure a ‘fat’ (prosperous) new year and black -eyed peas for luck. The peas are a Southern tradition, and where my mother ever picked that up I have no idea – the farthest south she ever was was Queens. Pork on New Year’s Day is an Italian tradition.

This morning I was reminded of one of the NYE parties we went too in those days, which was a dud 🤣.
We don’t go out on the 31st because the crowd and crazies is actually crazy here.
That is such a good song and I’m humming to it. I also recall J.Lo’s Waiting for tonight 😅.
I saw one of Will.I.Am’s interview, he is brilliant.

Not even a month ago, I fell asleep around midnight thirty. Nowadays, I’m lucky if I can make it until after ten. Last night, I fell asleep at eleven thirty. >_< I'm getting old. Ha! I also made that same pledge to not be that old person at the bar trying to cling on to my youth and be 'cool'. Have a good new year.

We celebrated New Years Eve and Greg’s birthday last night at home sitting around laughing, eating peanut butter pie, and opening gifts. Lovely end to the year and beginning to this one.
