My mom called the other day and asked if I wanted the old encyclopedia set. She couldn’t bring herself to throw it away because it still was in good condition. My thoughts drifted to Thomas Guide maps, foot thick phone books and Sunday newspapers. Searching for information used to be so different back in the day. Now a quick search for anything and everything is at our fingertips. I can’t imagine what the next iteration will be. It’s only a matter of time before internet searches are placed on the pile of forgotten encyclopedias and Thomas Guides. I’m in no rush, though. Technology sometimes travels a little too fast for me. I still haven’t figure out what TikTok is.
The last search I did was researching songs for these daily prompts. So I guess it’s appropriate to add M’s Pop Musik to the playlist. Released in 1979, Robin Scott’s use of technology was groundbreaking and later influenced other big name music artists.
Pop Muzik was also influential in the rise of electronica music. Scott’s use of electronic beats and synthesizers helped pave the way for other electronica artists such as Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. The song’s use of technology in music production was ahead of its time and helped shape the music industry for years to come.

I guess there’s no stopping technology. It’s changing music and everything else and the increments are no longer baby steps, but leaps and bounds. I just have to make sure I’m on the train before it leaves the station. Nobody likes being the one left behind. I certainly don’t. Then maybe I should stop wasting my time figuring out this Tiktok thing. By the time I finally understand it, it will probably be yesterday’s news.

Avoid TikTok at all costs! It’s addicting! JK. Newspapers are great I always wanted to subscribe to the New York Times, and get the actual physical paper not the digital subscription.

My nieces and nephews get all their information from TikTok and it baffles me. Mind you, I’ve never really took time to dive in there… and I probably should just to see what the hype is about.
I miss newspapers… Im thinking about at least subscribing to Sunday’s paper. I miss perusing with ink stained fingertips

I may take that idea and subscribe to Sunday’s paper only also! Make it a Sunday morning ritual. ☕️📰
TikTok is useful in the sense that you get the information in real time and also experience the weird or dramatic or mundane moments of life from a first person perspective, depending on how that information is being shared, but there is A LOT of misinformation out there. And a lot of silly dancing routines. Haha It’s entertaining, but I think it’s definitely having a strange effect on the collective psyche. I’m thinking of giving up social media for 30 days and seeing what happens.

I liked that song. I never took a great deal of notice of the lyrics. Maybe I should have. I’ve been avoiding Tik Tok it’s a slippery slope.

I’m hearing the same! All the young kids get all their info from there. My nieces can get animated telling me about it. It’s fun watching them smile and educate their “old uncle”!

Ahhh! I loved that song, Pop Muzic! Nice choice for today’s topic. I’m with you on the Tik Tok thing. I just wait until they pop up as Reels on my Instagram feed.

This never occurred to me until learning about it this morning. I just remember this song as quirky and catchy. I used to love the part where he rambled off all the city names! Good memories

Lol encyclopedias 😄 … dictionaries… Dewey decimal system 😄😄 … actual maps 🗺️
Lol times have changed
That song was a blast from the past ❤️
Reminds me when MTV was still music television and we had VH1 (I loved Pop Up Video ❤️👏)
Ahhhh those were the days ❤️
Some stuff like the Dewey decimal can be gone lol … and I do like GPS except when you lose signal and get lost anyway lol
… when I was VERY little – before cable even existed … I remember UHF and being the remote lol … that dial would hurt my little fingers lol
Oh and rabbit ears 🙄😬 … oh wait – I see something lol – hold it right there 😄
I also remember if you stay up too late and make it to midnight – they played the national anthem and then you got snow 😐
Also … we did not have a plethora of cartoons like they do now! I had before school cartoons on PBS or something … and Saturday morning cartoons – that’s it
I loved Merlin and Simon ❤️
Lawn darts lol 😄
Ahhh they really were the glory days – we had awesome moments and so funny to think back ❤️

TikTok can be pretty addictive. I go through bursts with it, where I’m on a lot and then I can’t stand it. It gets … too drama-y for me, or I find I’m getting the same topic over and over. At the same time, I learn a lot from it.
I’m curious what comes next. Xanga, LiveJournal, MySpace, Facebook, all this stuff keeps evolving.
And it’s funny you mention newspapers, I was wondering if I can get a Sunday paper to get coupons again, and read the comics 🤣 I’m trying to save on these grocery bills. I was wondering if I added regular coupons to digital… if maybe I’d save here or there. The amount of times, however, I’d clip coupons and forget the book… I just doubt that it would be better now 🤣

The general consensus is keep a little distance from TikTok before it sucks you in. I think I’ll take that wise advice!
I did see that I can subscribe to Sundays only. My fear is that it begins to show up at my door and remain tied as I drop it in my recycling bin. Maybe I’ll occasionally go to Starbucks and pick up a paper at the same time and enjoy it there. We’ll see. Just a thought for you, as well. Sunday comics… miss those, too!
