I used to always order straight off the menu. I was fine however it was prepared and rarely had any special requests. I’m not a picky eater and never liked troubling the server. In an attempt to be healthy, that has gone out the window. Tonight we are meeting friends at BJ’s for their Wednesday night burger special. Any burger on the menu with all you can eat fries for eleven bucks. Not a bad deal, except I have to modify my order to be on the healthier side. Here is a replay of the last time we went.
“I’ll have the bacon guacamole burger, please. Can you switch out the hamburger patty for grilled chicken? No bacon, please (can you hear me crying?) and on a whole wheat bun. Hold the mayo, ketchup and mustard – dry is fine. Instead of the all you can eat fries (now I’m sobbing), I’d like a wedge salad with the dressing on the side.“
All I can say is thank goodness God created avocados and they’re healthy for you. I do love guacamole. For all of you who were wondering like me, avocados are considered a fruit. I looked it up.
The servers are always gracious and accommodating. I’m actually fine with the order, it’s rather delicious. I do miss the fries, though. You can usually catch me stealing a fry or two off of someone else’s plate. This is a small price to pay to maintain good health. Now if my doctor tells me I have to begin drinking broccoli smoothies, I may have to draw the line there. No offense to broccoli. . .
I was having a difficult time coming up with a matching song, so this is going to take a little bit of a winding road.
In Pulp Fiction, Vince and Jules are discussing the cultural differences between Europe and the US. Specifically about how a “Quarter pounder with cheese” in Paris is called a “Royale with cheese”. The reasoning behind it is that they use the Metric system so they wouldn’t know what a “quarter pounder” is.

Classic scene from a classic Gen X movie. On the soundtrack, Urge Overkill covers Neil Diamond’s hit Girl, You’ll be a Woman Soon. Since I couldn’t find a burger song, I’ll settle for this one instead.

Girl, you'll be a woman... soon I love you so much, can't count all the ways I've died for you girl and all they can say is "He's not your kind" They never get tired of putting me down And I'll never know when I come around What I'm gonna find Don't let them make up your mind. Don't you know... Girl, you'll be a woman soon, Please, come take my hand Girl, you'll be a woman soon, Soon, you'll need a man I've been misunderstood for all of my life But what they're saying girl it cuts like a knife "The boy's no good" Well I've finally found what I'm a looking for But if they get their chance they'll end it for sure Surely would Baby I've done all I could Now it's up to you... Girl, you'll be a woman soon, Please, come take my hand Girl, you'll be a woman soon, Soon, you'll need a man Girl, you'll be a woman soon, Please, come take my hand Girl, you'll be a woman soon, Soon but soon, you'll need a man
Eat the bacon and ditch the bun. 🙂 That’s what I’d do anyway. Good luck with your health journey. I totally understand.

I feel your pain! I am also eating healthier now, but I hate to be a bother to the servers when we go out to eat. I’m usually able to find a healthy option on the menu. I use the Weight Watchers app which gives you an allotment of daily points. But, they also give you bonus weekly pts that you can use for those times when you want to eat out or have a small cup of ice cream! Their philosophy is that no food should be totally off limits. That has changed my relationship with food. There are no good or bad foods, just foods that I can only eat in moderation. I try to fill up on zero-point foods.

I like the thought of moderation. A few months ago, I went extreme and limited what I ate. Now, I maintain a relatively healthy diet and pepper in a few enjoyable meals so I don’t totally deprive myself. Glad you changed your relationship with food. That is so important. Keep it up!

I am on a very strict diet AIP protocol for health reasons. NO gluten, no sugar, no dairy, no alcohol…no to so many things. I agree, ditch the bun, keep the bacon 🙂 Nice to meet you. Thank you for the follow! Now I will snoop around on your blog.

I didn’t know that they had burger nights! That’s good to knows. I like their avo egg rolls even though those are so bad for you 😂 . You seem pretty disciplined on staying with your healthy meals.

I’m less rigid these days. I do swap out the fries for a salad though. I get the chicken most of the time, but occasionally I just need a burger!
