The other week, I updated my resume. That’s never a fun task, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. I’ve started researching opportunities on LinkedIn, seeing what is out there, but not yet ready to jump in with two feet to take the plunge. My plan is to take my time for now and look for something interesting. I haven’t answered the question of whether to remain in the same industry or search for something new. I see pros and cons for both and this is an ongoing discussion I have with myself. On the one hand, now is a good opportunity to break off into something new. But new can be frightening territory. On the other, I’ve invested thirty years in the same industry. Change isn’t so easy after that many years. I’m fortunate that I have some time and I’m taking a wait and see approach for now. At some point I’ll have to be more definitive, but for now I’m going to play it by ear.
On a train headed east of here.
Where I’ll end up I’m not quite clear.
– Hear, Moonpools and Catepillars
I discovered Moonpools and Caterpillars while I was used CD shopping back in the day. I used to scour the used CD stores for obscure bands. There was an art to finding good unknown bands in the used CD bin. First, the name of the band had to grab my attention. Then I’d look at the CD cover art, consider song titles and read a handful of lyrics. That’s all I had to go on to decide if I was going to take the gamble. OK, not a huge gamble. I think the no name band CDs went for about a buck ninety-nine at that time. But still. . .
Moonpools and Caterpillars caught my attention and was one of my better success finds. Playing it by ear reminds me of their song Hear. This has the total 90s sound. I’m not surprised if you’ve never heard of them before, unless you were next to me in that same used CD bin years ago. Give it a listen. Nowadays it’s free – there’s no longer that $1.99 gamble. You can’t go wrong with a deal like that.

On a train headed east of here
Where I'll end up I'm not quite clear
But I can't help myself I must be settling down
Until they stop this thing, I'll get around
When I hear it's been done before
And I hear it's quite a simple thing
Then I hear it's quite difficult
And I hear almost everything
Pass through deserts with mountain streams
Outside my window the scenes serene
The day I find myself I'll be so very proud
But I will not get passes up in the crowd
Now I'm not trying to cut anyone down
But I know it's been going on too long
Simply doing what you feel is the best way not to go wrong
Now I know it seems crazy
And it may be a struggle
But I can't believe all this is true
So I'm here, I'm uneasy and I'm ready to go
And I won't stop until this thing goes round and round
And I can sing like I will never know
When I hear it's been done before
And I hear it's a simple thing
Then I hear it's quite difficult
And I hear
When I hear it's been done before
And I hear it's a simple thing
Then I hear it's quite difficult
And I hear almost everything
best of luck in the job search!

While the prospect of a new job and new opportunities is exciting, it is a real pain updating your resume. I recently updated mine for the first Irma in a few years!
Good luck on your job search!
