Me? I never have the urge to be the first one through the door or first to try the latest thing. Typically, when I get a new Iphone, I pick the prior year’s version. It’s still an upgrade for me. I once joined a start up for a brief stint. One day we were comparing our Iphone versions. After the CEO saw mine, he joked I’d better get an upgrade. “We’re a technology company,” he laughed. OK, you got a point there.
For new stuff, I don’t have any desire to be the guinea pig. Let others work out the kinks, I say. I’m happy to step in a little late to the party and I’m just fine letting others have the glory and the attention. So, if tickets were on sale for a trip to the moon, I’d be fine passing for now. I figure the moon isn’t going anywhere. I’ll wait until I rack up enough frequent flyer mileage points and get a free ride. That’s my plan and I’m sticking to it.
I love when modern day artists cover classics. It’s interesting to listen to a different interpretation or spin. Morrissey covered Henry Mancini’s Moon River in 1994.
“Moon River” was originally written by composer Henry Mancini and lyricist Johnny Mercer for the 1961 film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Mercer wrote the lyrics about a real river near his house in Savannah, Georgia. His window looked out at the river, and he had many fond memories there. The real river was originally called Back River, but it was officially renamed Moon River in honor of the song. Mercer’s home also became known as the Moon River House.
– American Songwriter
It’s a love song, but not addressed to a lover. The “dream maker” and “heart breaker” is the river itself. It’s a metaphor of yearning for the unpredictable eddies of an adventurous life, to be swept along by the currents to somewhere new: “Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way.”
– The Financial Times
I suppose if you are going to be swept by the currents to somewhere new, the moon would be a solid choice. If not the moon, where would you go? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Moonriver Wider than a mile I'll be crossing you in style Someday Oh, Dreammaker You heartbreaker Wherever you're going I'm going your way Two drifters Off to see the world I'm not so sure the world Deserves us We're after The same rainbow's end How come it's just around the bend? It's always just around the bend? [repeat]
I had no idea that Morrissey covered “Moon River”. The thought of that alone is depressing…

Yeah, I ain’t going to the moon either. I also like covers of old songs if they’re done well. Disturb’s Sound of Silence is a good example. I didn’t know that Moon River was for Breakfast at Tiffany’s I just though it was a song they had in the movie. Learn something new every day.

I randomly ran into Disturb’s cover while down a YouTube rabbit hole. It’s really good. I only watched it that one time and I probably wouldn’t have seen it again without your reminder, so I’m glad you commented on it. It was great to see it again. Thanks.

Glad to have reminded you. 🙂 I love both versions.

I’m with you! Let them work out all the kinks first. I’d also want to wait until the price was affordable. 😂

I would love to travel around the world first. I’m not interested to be lost in space. 😅

There used to be an around the world plane ticket. You paid one price (it was reasonable) and it was good for a year. You just had to stay in the same hemisphere (north vs south). My friend an I planned a trip around the world when we were younger, but life got the way. It was fun researching and daydreaming, though.

Well written as always. And thought-provoking. 🤔 I read a blogger, and he asked how much they would have to pay me to go the moon? You hit me with something else I thought about also. Did they work the bugs out? If I did name my price. 🤔🫡

Yep, the bugs. I thought about that as well. I’m in no hurry!

with Morrissey at the helm, a fatalistic boat ride … lovely as usual, though I half-expected a collision at river’s bend
