I like the thought of this. Three wishes. Here goes.
Time travel – When I think of time travel, I think more in terms of going back in time rather than forward. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t limit it to just the rewind button. But the thought of reliving moments in the past sounds attractive. Would I change outcomes? I wouldn’t be able to help myself, so probably yes. It would be interesting to see how things would play out differently had I made different choices. I can see that leading both ways, the good and the bad. Still, it would be interesting. I just want to avoid being stuck in a Groundhog Day loop, though. That would drive me crazy.
Photographic memory – Life would be so much easier if I had a photographic memory. That would save hours and hours of time. If I could also add the ability to connect names and faces, that would be the ultimate superpower for me. There is nothing worse than having difficulty placing a name to a face, especially when they remember yours. This happens far too often. If I had that first wish, I could just hit the rewind buttons few times instead.
Knack for languages – I truly appreciate multi-lingual people. If I was able to speak multiple languages, that would feel good. I’ve heard one fluency marker is dreaming in another language. That would simultaneously be both odd and cool. It would take traveling to a whole new dimension. I no longer would struggle ordering in a restaurant or asking for directions. Real conversations. What a change in experience.
Sorry for the selfish list this time around. I can imagine myself jumping around in time, from country to country, collecting a mental catalogue every step of the way. Sounds exhausting, but what a ride.
Before I started listening to new wave and alternative rock, I listened to soul and R&B. So I’m reaching pretty far back for this one. Rose Royce released Wishing on a Star in 1977. If you don’t recognize the name, they were the same group that sang Car Wash. I know this song was remade a number of times over the years, but there is nothing like the original 1970s old school sound.

I'm wishin' on a star To follow where you are I'm wishin' on a dream To follow what it means I'm wishin' on a star To follow where you are I'm wishin' on a dream To follow what it means And I wish on all the rainbows that I see I wish on all the people who really dream And I'm wishin' on tomorrow, praying it'll come And I'm wishin' on all the lovin' we've ever done I never thought I'd see A time when you would be So far away from home So far away from me Just think of all the moments that we've spent I just can't let you go, for me you were meant And I didn't mean to hurt you, but I know That in the game of love you reap what you sow I feel it's time we should make up, baby I feel it's time for us to get back together And make the best of things, oh baby, when we're together Whether or never I feel it's time we should make up, baby I feel it's time for us to get back together And make the best of things, oh baby, when we're together Whether or never I'm wishin' on a star To follow where you are I'm wishin' on a dream To follow what it means And I wish on all the rainbows that I see I wish on all the people we ever greeted And I'm hopin' on all the days to come and days to go And I'm hopin' on days of lovin' you so I'm wishin' on a star To follow where you are I'm wishing on a star, whoa-oh And I wish on all the rainbows that I see I'm wishin' on a star To follow where you are I'm wishin' on a star And I wish on all the rainbows that I see I'm wishin' on a star To follow where you are I'm wishin' on a star Oh, I'm beggin' and prayin', baby I'm wishin' on a star, oh To follow where you are I'm wishin' on a star, baby To follow wherever you might be...
Yassss to time traveling! I always say I want to build a Time Machine one day lol I had many professors who were multi-lingual and one had a photographic memory, I thought that was so cool and what a gift! When I was studying Latin, words and phrases would pop up in dreams, I definitely wasn’t fluent, but the constant studying made its way to my subconscious I suppose—trippy experience!

I’m with you on the photographic memory. How awesome would that be? I struggle so much with my attention span that it would be truly life changing.

I like that you didn’t wish for infinite wishes or a billion dollars! LOL! I would also like to have the knack to learn multiple languages. I’m trying to learn Spanish right now, but I’ve discovered that if I don’t use it, I lose it. Maybe I should start speaking Spanish to my husband around the house?

Time travel, good one! I’d want to check out certain specific time periods/places that looked fun. Like the roaring 20s in NYC.

Time Machine! I want it so bad! I speak three languages, and I am grateful for my multi language life. 👍

That’s great! How did you learn the other languages? School or did you live abroad?

I am from Algeria, so I grew up speaking Arabic and French. Then I moved to the US, so now I speak English.

Yes, except my daughter likes to speak English only. She’s so stubborn. 😅

She will always have an ear for it. She is lucky to be surrounded by languages. She’ll appreciate it more when she is older.
