If you are a Gen Xer, you probably grew up hearing tales of the Bermuda Triangle. Planes and ships go in, but never come out. I’ve always been fascinated by this. Where did they go? I can’t remember hearing about found wreckage or rescued survivors. It was a total mystery.
Reports of unexplained occurrences in the region date to the mid-19th century. Some ships were discovered completely abandoned for no apparent reason; others transmitted no distress signals and were never seen or heard from again. Aircraft have been reported and then vanished, and rescue missions are said to have vanished when flying in the area. However, wreckage has not been found . . .

Some of the explanations floating out there were aliens, supernatural causes or magnetic fields that caused navigational systems to malfunction. The magnetic field explanation seems the most plausible, but that still doesn’t explain unfound wreckage or the disappearance of crews. Totally bizarre. The triangle had slipped my mind for decades. A few months ago it randomly re-emerged in my head and I wondered why we never hear about it anymore. Either planes and ships now steer clear and take a wide berth, or it slowly, quietly slipped out the back door without anyone noticing. I prefer the latter. Otherwise. . .
On to other bizarre triangles. . .
I enjoyed New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle when it was released in 1986. Frente! later came out with an acoustic version in 1992. They are two different feels. New Order’s version dripped of the 80’s with it’s synthesizer and drum beat sounds. As my music taste changed in the 90’s, Frente!’s version settled in just right. It’s nice having the same song fit like a puzzle piece between two different decades. I still go back and listen to both versions occasionally. Sometimes I feel the 80’s pull at me, other times the 90’s gives my shirt sleeve a tug. Each fits like a glove, but in different ways. New Order marked the year I graduated high school and was off to college. Frente! touched the beginning years into adulthood, my first steps out into the real world. Same song. Different nostalgia. I’ll never complain about the two for one.

Every time I think of you I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue It's no problem of mine, but it's a problem I find Living a life that I can't leave behind There's no sense in telling me The wisdom of the fool won't set you free But that's the way that it goes and it's what nobody knows Well, every day my confusion grows Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray I'm waiting for that final moment You say the words that I can't say I feel fine and I feel good I'm feeling like I never should Whenever I get this way, I just don't know what to say Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday? I'm not sure what this could mean I don't think you're what you seem I do admit to myself that if I hurt someone else Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray I'm waiting for that final moment You say the words that I can't say Every time I see you falling I get down on my knees and pray I'm waiting for that final moment You say the words that I can't say

OMG, I had totally forgotten about the Bermuda Triangle! My parents took us to Bermuda on vacation and we were terrified flying over it. Years later, I went there by ship and it was not a concern. It’s like everyone just got over it. Good one!

Yea, why don’t we hear about it anymore? I feel like I grew up hearing about a lot more supernatural, unexplained stuff than I do now. Of course, my mom was a professional psychic, so that had a lot to do with it. But still. There used to be this tabloid at the checkout that had all the stuff in it like aliens and bigfoot. I loved to get it when I was a kid. Was it The National Enquirer? I just remember it was black and white back then and it had a lot of wild advertisements in the back. One of the advertisements that always caught my eye was something about joining a vampire religion. It said, “Vampires exist! Join us!” There was something kind of exciting about stuff like that back then.

Yeah, now it’s all conspiracy theories. Not as fun.

Yes! I remember the tabloid at the checkout! I was just at the grocery store yesterday and don’t recall seeing one. I do like the Bigfoot stories, though. Usually a guy dressed up in a hairy suit. Strangely, I still believe…at least in the possibility

At least they’re still talking about Bigfoot. Are they still doing Bigfoot Hunter or whatever that show was?

I’m not sure. I stumbled on a show the other day. Usually a lot of noise late at night with a lot of what ifs… still fun

Apparently they had a sighting near us recently. I mean, anything is possible. You never know.

Yes! I always loved seeing TV shows and movies about the Bermuda Triangle. So mysterious! You’re right, we don’t hear much about it anymore. That reminds me of a funny meme I saw the other day that said, “Growing up, I always thought quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem than it turned out to be.”
This song is the quintessential song of the 80’s for me! The moment I hear it, I am transported back to high school with my acid washed jeans, big permed hair and baggy sweaters. I had never heard the Frente! version before. I like it. Nice post.

This is the total 80s song, I agree. It’s fun being transported in time

When I was a kid I devoured books and stories about the Bermuda Triangle. And as a teenager, I was all about trying to figure it out. Then I was all: “Eh, whatever, I’ve got bigger stuff to worry about.” Heh

I know. It sounds like everyone lost interest and it just dissipated

One of my professors went to Bermuda last month. I joked and I asked him to bring me some pink sand from there if he makes it safely back to NC.
And yes, he is back, safe, and he gave me a magnet with pink sand from Bermuda. 😂

That’s great! Maybe the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle is resting in the past…

It’s so funny you mention the Bermuda Triangle. A friend and I were talking about it the other day and how it just seemed to have disappeared! Then we got on the subject of sink holes, which scare me to death to even think about!

I think it really did disappear. Yeah, sink holes are pretty bad

Love the juxtoposition! I used to read all those books about aliens, bigfoot, and the Bermuda Triangle myself. Also, a Gen Xer, New Order is a favorite group. Well done. 💀
