Name your top three pet peeves.
Here are a few of my pet peeves in no particular order.
1. When people don’t understand to alternate when two lanes are merging into one.
2. When someone stops in the middle of the main aisle in Costco, causing a traffic jam in both directions.
3. I can only think of two right now. I’m sure there is a third somewhere.
I know I should be more patient and I’ve been working on that. Long time ago, I once yelled something out my window when a person wasn’t alternating as two lanes merged on a freeway on-ramp. Ten miles later, we both exited the same off ramp and randomly zig zagged through the streets together. We almost turned into the same parking structure downtown. Boy, that would have been awkward.
These days, I’m not in a rush since I’m on sabbatical, so these pet peeves have somewhat melted away. I’m really trying to let them go. I should listen to Axle Rose’s message of Patience.
The lyrics of “Patience” paint a picture of a man who understands that he needs to be patient in life’s journey. The song explicitly talks about waiting for love, and how love can be difficult to find. It relays the message that one should not rush or force things to happen.
In a 2011 interview, Rose said, “For me, the song Patience is more about waiting for something that’s right for you, just having a little bit of faith.”

. . . take it slow, and it’ll work itself out fine. All we need is just a little patience
Guns and Roses is singing about love and not merging cars or Costco log jams. But patience is a virtue, good for my blood pressure and good karma. So maybe it’s worth practicing it a little bit more.

One, two, one, two, three, four
Shed a tear 'cause I'm missin' you, I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure, but you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt you're in my heart now
Said, woman, take it slow and it'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said, sugar, make it slow and we'll come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
Patience, mm yeah
I sit here on the stairs 'cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now, I'll wait, dear
Sometimes I get so tense, but I can't speed up the time
But you know, love, there's one more thing to consider
Said, woman, take it slow and things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said, sugar, take the time 'cause the lights are shinin' bright
You and I've got what it takes to make it
We won't fake it, aw, I'll never break it, 'cause I can't take it
(Little patience, hm yeah, hm yeah)
(Need a little patience, yeah)
(Just a little patience, yeah)
(Some more patience)
I've been walkin' the streets at night (Yeah)
Just tryin' to get it right (A little patience)
It's hard to see with so many around (Yeah)
You know I don't like bein' stuck in the crowd (Could use some patience)
An' the streets don't change, but maybe the names (Yeah)
I ain't got time for the game 'cause I need you (Gotta have more patience)
Yeah-yeah, but I need you (Yeah)
Ooh, I need you (All it takes is patience)
Oh, I need you (Just a little patience)
Ooh, this time (Is all you need)
That traffic thing annoys me to. It should be like a zipper, and traffic will flow smoothly. But some people just don’t seem to get that. >_<

Fabulous song, and another great post, thank you! As the Dos Equis guy would say, I don’t listen to a lot of G&R but when I do, it’s always good. 😊
I think patience is a lot easier to exercise when on sabbatical (nice!) or, in my case, retirement, though with intention, we can all get there. And once open to it, the world becomes much easier to live in. With traffic, after at least five years of advocacy on it, a City councillor here finally convinced (most) people the zipper merge is a good thing. And re: Costco, a couple of trips ago, there were two men I thought were going to get in a fist fight! I just looked down at my feet and waited – patiently – in the checkout line that ran more than half the length of the warehouse. Chill, people… it’s all good. Just read a good blog while you’re waiting… 😉

I refuse to get a Costco membership because of that kind of craziness. In my circle, I don’t know anyone who does not have a Costco membership.
Regarding patience for others, I read on WordPress somewhere that before you react to people aggressively, remind yourself that the person maybe going through tough times like losing a job, facing a divorce, or death of a loved one. So we should try to show a little kindness. It’s hard to do, I know. I struggled with that but I tried more now that I’m older.

You’ve got a great point there. I was at a seminar that touched on this topic. You never know what people are going through. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

We could all use a little more patience. My Mom used to tell me never to pray for patience, because God will put you in frustrating situations where you have to learn it! 😉

Haha! That’s great! Now I just expect it’s going to happen so I no longer get upset. I still scratch my head, though!
