My Gen X Playlist: Where Were You Hiding When the Storm Broke – The Alarm

  1. Thanks for this illuminating post. Canada is a lot like a little brother to the US, politically and even culturally in some ways, and our system has emulated some of the negative aspects of other countries with growing far-right movements. From my left-of-centre vantage point I look with a little horror at what our federal conservative politicians endorse as “truth.” They may just get the chance to form government if current polling holds out until an election is called (we don’t have fixed-date federal elections).

    And yeah, that hair!

  2. I remember the song, but not when it was released, a cousin was a big fan and I listened when she wanted to listen to retro music. The teenager in me loved the post punk energy. May have to check them out again. As for politics, I look from over this side and wonder what American’s really think. Here in Britain there is a little more choice but the differences between the parties are a mere short story in thickness. It seems to be vote for the party that is anti the things you are rather than vote for the party that will progress the country for all the population. Pro business should not mean lower taxes for business and the wealthy, it should mean fair taxes. Business needs competdent employees and excellent infrastucture. Both these come from the state through education and capital spending. Do we not all want freedom to be who we want to be, even if it offends anothers religion or point of view? I have gay friends of both sexes, and that has never bothered me. A relationship is a relationship, they all have their problems. And now I am begining to sound like my ultra political friends so I will stop here and say bravo for your post.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it. The political system is in chaos. I remember a time when differing views meant discussion and still looked for a way forward. There was civility and respect. Now I don’t know what to call it. We can’t even agree on basic truths. I still have hope that we get through this. And yes, people are people. We should have love and respect for all.
