Long time ago, I was in the Artist District and came across this cool mural. I liked it because it’s carefree and depicts a moment of innocence. Whenever I’m in the area, I always stop by. Murals and graffiti art can emote a number of different feelings. This is one without the jagged edges. If I had a billboard, I’d give this artist a blank canvas to be free to create. Don’t tell me. I want to be surprised. Let me first see the sign as I randomly drive down the freeway.
Ace of Base released The Sign in 1993. In an interview with Esquire, lead singer Jenny Berggren shares the meaning of the song.
My brother was the one who wrote the song. It’s about when suddenly you visualize something and it becomes something you use to change your life. You realize, I should do this or not do it anymore. He’s always kept [whatever his sign was] a secret, and I’m not sure he had one.

I’ve never had a sign, but then again, I’ve never really looked for one. I wonder how many times one’s appeared and I simply didn’t connect the dots? Or maybe it’s too easy to read into something random and force a connection that’s not there. This has gotten me curious now. Have you ever seen a sign?

Whoa, oh, yeah
(Ah) I got a new life
You would hardly recognize me, I'm so glad
How could a person like me care for you?
(Ah) Why do I bother
When you're not the one for me?
Ooh, is enough enough?
I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding
I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong?
(Ah) Under the pale moon
For so many years, I've wondered who you are
How could a person like you bring me joy?
Under the pale moon
Where I see a lot of stars
Ooh, is enough enough?
I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding
I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong?
Oh, oh, oh
I saw the sign, and it opened up my mind
And I am happy now living without you
I've left you, oh-oh-oh
I saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong
(I saw the sign, I saw the si-i-ign) I saw the sign
(I saw the sign, I saw the si-i-i-ign)
(I saw the sign, I saw the sign) I saw the sign
And it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
Just my opinion, most of the time we are so busy looking for a sign that we fail to recognize the ones that passed us. We chalk everything up to coincidence.

You are probably right about that.

I like that! Give your billboard to an artist.

I see signs everywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m searching for things to be thankful for. My daughter accuses me of reading too much into coincidence, but I’d rather find joy by keeping an open heart and mind, than sitting around waiting for it to come to me.

I think it’s great. Maybe a few may be a coincidence, but you may be right about a bunch of them. Sometimes the stars are aligned

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. Blockin’ out the scenery, breakin’ my mind. Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign? That’s the song that came to mind when I read your post.
I love the Ace of Base song too. I think I had their record when I was a teenager… or was it that song on a mixtape? Either way, I listened to that song a lot. ^_^

Ha! I saw this prompt and honestly wondered how you’d answer it. Nice job. I love a good mural… there’s one I saw somewhere in London, England in 2011 that I use as the wallpaper on my laptop.
I never really liked this song, felt it lacked depth, but it makes a good connection to the writing prompt.
I do really like the idea of giving the billboard over to someone to surprise your with their creativity… cool idea!

These prompts can be a little challenging! Not only what to write, then trying to tie in a song. It’s be fun, so far.
This song now reminds me of Pitch Perfect. That’s was a fun movie.
I do like murals and graffiti art. I think there ate certain art forms that took awhile before being recognized and appreciated. Tattoo art can be included as well.
