We need to make necessary changes to reduce gun violence. I’m not advocating drastic changes that remove guns altogether. I’m just asking for common sense changes that put some guardrails down.
Are there any changes that will solve the problem of gun violence? No, probably not. But there are some that will have an obvious impact.
Get rid of assault weapons. That’s a start. Nobody needs that much fire power. Like I mentioned before. Let’s use common sense.
Appreciation and thanks for artists using their voices for change.
Billie Eilish, Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crow, Nile Rodgers, Bootsy Collins, Sofi Tukker, Rufus Wainwright, Bush and many more have joined a coalition of musicians called Artist for Action to Prevent Gun Violence designed to inspire people to volunteer, donate and vote to end the epidemic of gun violence plaguing the United States.
“This needs to stop,” said Peter Gabriel. “So many needless deaths. So much suffering. It just needs a little common sense.”
Billie Eilish said, “As a community of Artists, we need to band together to make common sense change.
“As a father, I am staggered by the gun violence in America, and as a musician, I am fortunate enough to be able to take a stand against it,” said Bush’s Gavin Rossdale. “This is a human rights crisis out of control. There have been more than 400 mass shootings in the US in 2023 – from stores to football games to parades to schools. Every person, especially children, deserves the right to be and feel safe.”
– Variety
Gavin Rossdale is right. I think we can all agree that we deserve the right to feel safe. Some things are just basic.
Here is one of my favorite Bush songs for the playlist – Glycerine.

It must be your skin, I'm sinking in
It must be for real, 'cause now I can feel
And I didn't mind, It's not my kind
It's not my time to wonder why
Everything gone white, everything's grey
Now you're here, now you're away
I don't want this, remember that
I'll never forget where you're at
Don't let the days go by
Glycerine, glycerine
I'm never alone, I'm alone all the time
Are you at one? Or do you lie?
We live in a wheel where everyone steals
But when we rise, it's like strawberry fields
I treated you bad, you bruise my face
Couldn't love you more, you've got a beautiful taste
Don't let the days go by
Could've been easier on you
I couldn't change though I wanted to
It should have been easier by three
Our old friend fear and you and me
Glycerine, glycerine
Don't let the days go by
Glycerine
Don't let the days go by
Glycerine, glycerine
Glycerine, glycerine
Bad moon white again
Bad moon white again
As she falls around me
I needed you more, you wanted us less
I could not kiss, just regress
It might just be clear, simple and plain
Well that's just fine, that's just one of my names
Don't let the days go by
Could've been easier on you, you, you
Glycerine, glycerine
Glycerine, glycerine
If Roe v Wade hadn’t been overturned 18 months ago, I was going to write today about common sense gun control.
I think 311 said it best when they sang “guns are for pussies”

Thanks for the song. I hadn’t heard that one before. That song definitely fits

Good to know about these specific artists speaking out publicly. There’s one political party that continually blocks common sense gun measures. We’ve got to vote them all out this year.

I’m looking forward to the day the extremists become the minority once again. This shit has gotten out of hand.

Yeah, the extremists and their many enablers need to go

It is a good place to start. I agree

Yeah we had assault weapons banned at one time. I think it was 2004 that the ban was lifted. Reinstating that ban seems like the most basic common sense first step we could take.

I’ve been in one
The days, weeks, years and months that follow are inexplicable. Trauma no one needs to experience.

I’m really sorry you had to experience this trauma. I can’t even imagine what you went through.

Thx
I wrote my first book on an earlier anniversary of it happening. I felt we needed a response because prevention may never happen. The sheer number of school shootings since is staggering. It’s a heart breaking fact that we live with.

Thank you for this powerful post and your thoughts on this issue. The daughter of dear friends of ours was murdered in a school shooting.. that event over a decade ago completely changed the family’s and all their friends’ lives in a way that is impossible to describe. And I see small hints of the gun-death issue starting in my country… sigh.

Such a tragedy. I can’t begin to understand the depths of pain they must feel. I’m sad to hear gun violence is beginning to increase in your county. We need to stop the violence.

Yep, Im pretty certain the founding fathers didn’t have automatic guns in mind.

You would think that would be something we all could agree on…
