There was a time when the only two liquids I mainly drank were coffee or alcohol. OK, maybe throw in an occasional ice tea for lunch. I thought liquids were liquids and surely I was still being hydrated. Wrong. This went on for over a decade. No, not very healthy and no, not recommend. Good thing I was young and resilient back then.
I love the feeling of soda. The sound of the bubbles, the carbonation when it hits the tongue, the sugary flavor, the all you can drink soda fountains. But it has too much sugar, so I rarely drink it. I gladly traded my soda sugar high for my caffeine coffee fix. Both my doctor and my dentist thank me. On a rare occasion I will indulge on an ice cold Coke. Heaven. Let me rephrase that. Pure heaven.
As I got older, I’ve moved more towards water. I discovered it does wonders for my health and my body thanks me. Water drinking has changed from when I was a kid. Us GenXers grew up drinking faucet water. Truth be told, we even drank water straight from the garden hose on a hot summers day. It had that weird garden hose rubbery taste. You had to let the water run a bit at first so you didn’t get a mouthful of stale warm water. I imagine it helped build some type of immunity in our Gen X bodies. I can’t imagine kids today drinking from the faucet or sipping from the hose. I can imagine the appalled look on their faces. “You want us to do what?”
Drinking fountains as a kid? Remember the kid who would suck the water out of the drinking fountain with the low flow? Gross. I recently walked by a drinking fountain at the airport and that visual came to mind. That’s one that I would edit out on a rewind.
Water is boring, but water is good. Soda water when I need my carbonation fix. Or add a slice of lemon if I’m feeling extra motivated. That’s my drink of choice.
A more exciting choice? Try AC/DC’s Have A Drink On Me. It’s chock full of a better list.
Yeah, so come on, have a good time
And get blinded out of your mind
So, don’t worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the check, we’ll get hell to pay

Whiskey, gin and brandy
With a glass, I'm pretty handy
I'm tryin' to walk a straight line
On sour mash and cheap wine
So, join me for a drink, boys
We're gonna make a big noise
So, don't worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the check, we'll get hell to pay
Have a drink on me
Yeah, have a drink on me
Yeah, have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
I'm dizzy, drunk and fighting
On tequila, white lightnin'
Yes, my glass is gettin' shorter
On whiskey, ice and water
Yeah, so come on, have a good time
And get blinded out of your mind
So, don't worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the check, we'll get hell to pay
Have a drink on me
Yeah, have a drink on me
Yeah, have a drink on me
Have a drink on me tonight
Get stoned
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Come on
Going another round
Gonna hit the ground
Take another swig
Have another drink
Gonna drink you dry
Gonna get me high
Come on, all the boys make a noise
Have a drink on me (Have a drink on me)
Have a drink on me (Have a drink on me)
Ah, have a drink on me (Have a drink on me)
Have a drink on me
Have a drink on me
Have a drink
On me
Haha, yes! I remember drinking water from the garden hose and that funky rubber taste. I did not like tap water growing up, so I drank a lot of milk and Kool-Aid. Now, filtered water is my go-to drink. Thanks for the memories!

Kool-aid. Oh yeah! Wow, that takes me back!

My Dad liked to experiment with the drinks in our fridge. He once combined grape Kool-Aid, orange juice (with pulp), and iced tea! It actually tasted ok, except for the floating pulp. 😂

That sounds like a fun childhood memory…

Oh yeah. I forgot about drinking from the garden hose / and getting blasted in the face, with water up your nose. Good times !

No – we never thought twice about the water fountains. We even had one at our tennis club until Covid hit! Eeee-uuuw! Gross! ( I saw them being used in India recently.)
I still drink water out a tap (fawcet) though more often than not I’ll add a splash of diluting fruit juice.
(Great choice of track, by the way. 😉 )

That hose water was good! On a hot summer day? Delicious.

I grew up in Africa, so faucet water was the only water available to drink. Except if someone could afford to buy Evian water! Definitely not my family.
Now I drink filtered water, and there is a specific brand of water I like to buy just for the taste.

We drink filtered water also. There were too many bottles being used up and we wanted to cut down.

I drink canned water now because the water in our city sucks rocks. It tastes awful even when filtered. Blah. But anywhere else, I’ll drink it from the faucet.

Yeah, it all depends. Our last place was older and in Los Angeles. We avoided the faucet water. I’m sure it probably was fine.

A solid rocker!
I mostly drink water too… I like fizzy water but am just as happy with tap water.
