So, I’m currently taking a career break. For the first time in years, my days are not filled with stress. I don’t wake up in the middle of the night thinking about work. I’m now sleeping 6-7 hours per night. I’m not putting in 10-12 hour intense filled days at the office. My blood pressure is down. My weight is down. My water, fruit and vegetable consumption are up. Exercise is up. I’m spending more time with friends again socially. It’s fun to laugh once again.
My job these past months has been to get healthy. Am I enjoying it? A resounding yes. And I realize it’s a blessing that I am able to take some time off. I don’t take it lightly. In the meantime, I also get to share a few songs and engage with interesting people through this blog. How can I not enjoy this?
Smooth Radio did a survey of the most relaxing songs. Bob Dylan made number 14 with Lay, Lady Lay. I grew up listening to the Duran Duran cover version. Dylan fans may cry foul and that’s understandable. I like the Duran Duran version because it reminds me of my younger days.

Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Whatever colors you have in your mind
I show them to you and you see them shine
Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Stay lady stay
Stay with your man a while
Until the break of day
Let me see you make him smile
His clothes are dirty but his
His hands are clean
And you are the best thing
That he's ever seen
Stay lady stay
Stay with your man a while
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it, too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you
Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Stay lady stay
Stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay lady stay
Stay while the night is still ahead
Lay lady lay
Stay
love this! 😊

Great song! Would be fun to put together a “relaxing” songs playlist.

I didn’t know Duran Duran covered this song. I only knew the Bob Dylan version. Cool. Thanks for sharing

We are indeed in a similar boat these days, friend. Like you, I have found it to mostly be a blessing.
I am not the world’s biggest Dylan fan, but I do happen to like this song, and Duran Duran to boot, so I am in your camp on this one. 👍

It’s had its ups and downs. Ive never put concentrating health as a priority before. So it’s been new territory for me.
I don’t listen to Dylan too much, either. He’s an acquired taste.

That’s a nice way to put it. I tend to like his music more when others perform it 😄
I have before, but I lost my way for a spell. It’s good to be back on the path.

Great your back on track. It’s easy to fall off the path. Getting back on is the hard part

Indeed it is. It’s real easy to fall into a rut and stay there if you’re not careful.

It’s so smart to put your health first. By the way, have you noticed the resurgence in “yacht rock”? I wonder if that’s related to the increasingly stressful news we’re always getting.

Yacht rock… I had no idea what this was until I just looked it up. Interesting. I think you are right about the news. The tension here and abroad is probably at all time highs. I can’t imagine it getting any worse, but I don’t want to jinx it

I LOVE THIS SONG. I never knew this version existed. I’ve heard the choir version. Thank you for this. ❤️

I’m not sure how I found this song years ago. I think I must have bought a CD of cover songs or something. But I’ve always liked this cover version.

Whoa! I never knew Duran Duran covered this song! Thanks for introducing their version to me.
This song, mind you the Dylan version as Duran Duran were still kids back then, reminds me of trips to the beach with my oldest brother and his girlfriend. It would often play on the radio as we drove home in the waning sunlight.
I like things about both versions… it’s a cool interpretation.
And I’m glad to know your break is having so many positive results for you. Hopefully in a few years you can join me in making not working a permanent lifestyle! As you’ve seen, there’s plenty to fill the time. Heck, I can’t even keep up with blogs!

I like how music triggers certain memories. Beach trips, long roads home, sundown. There has to be a poem somewhere in there. Thanks for sharing your nostalgia.
Yes, I’m looking forward to retirement some day!

I really like that, too.
And it’s you should say that; I actually did write something about it, though it was for the former sister-in-law’s memorial service about five years ago. Life is short, thank goodness for memories.
