My Gen X Playlist: Take It Easy – The Eagles

    1. They are pretty great. Recently I was visiting my 83 year old mother. She had the Eagles playing in the background and was singing along. I asked when did you start listening to the Eagles? Turns out, she and my dad saw them in concert a few times. Sometimes parents surprise you.

      1. Yeah, they definitely do. My parents had a few cool bands in their repertoire, the Eagles being on of them. My old man was into Cream and Zeppelin too, so he at least had that going for him. 😄

  1. honestly, i wish i had written such a cogent post today. i like your analogy a lot. if i ever had goals that i was laser focused on, i don’t remember them. life comes at you fast and for me it’s a constant shell game, trying to focus on the most important one.

is commenting on word press my most important shell right now? depends on who you ask and by what metric we measure. and oh yes the eagles. iconic.

    1. Life gets way too busy. It’s easy for goals to be blurred. I find myself managing day to day sometimes. It’s too easy to get pulled into various directions that you forget about goals. My new goal is just to slow life down if I can. Let’s see how that goes.

  2. Great post! I love the link to Swingers and I can just imagine when you finally saw the lights of Vegas in the middle of the night. Interesting that Jackson Browne co-wrote that mega hit for the Eagles! I just recently learned that Linda Ronstadt put The Eagles together in the first place.

    1. I was surprised to read about Jackson Brown, too. I read he got stuck writing the song and Frey (who lived upstairs in the same apartment building in Echo Park) helped him finish it. I didn’t know Ronstadt put them together. That’s pretty cool to learn.

      1. It’s interesting how all those musicians were interconnected back then. There’s a wonderful doc about Linda called The Sound of My Voice that the Eagles are in a lot.

  3. I LOVE that you know all this! On our last trip through Winslow my brother said we had to stop there. We got some fun pics with the life size bronzes. I’ve made that CA to Utah trip a handful of times. The most memorable was a tire blow out near Victorville.
Great advice in a great old song! Thanks for your post

  4. Great post. Cool story (that’s quite an adventure, and good luck at the garage) and I didn’t know the backstory to the song. Not a favourite Eagles song for me; I think because it was overplayed back in the day.
