One day, I discovered I had a new pet. It wasn’t something I looked for. It just snuck up on me and made itself comfortable. Initially, it hid in plain sight. But after awhile, I couldn’t help but notice. I had a pet bot on my blog. Strange.
One day I recorded an extra 100 views than normal. The following day it was an extra 200. It’s not like it was spread out among multiple posts. It just targeted one. Believe me, I am self-aware if nothing else. There is no way in hell I would attract that many wandering eyes. That’s how I discovered my newfound friend.
I googled ways to rid myself of it. But it’s not like accidentally leaving your side gate open hoping it’s a runner looking for an escape.
I also thought about just letting it hang out. Let it sit comfortably at my feet. I’d have to remind myself not to let my head inflate by the view count. It wouldn’t be real. Just my little stray pet wanting my attention. If I kept it, I’d eventually have to name the little guy. I might even get attached to it.
Ultimately, I decided I wasn’t looking for a new pet. There’s no telling where it’s been or what it’s carrying. I had to let the stray go. Sorry, little guy.
The Stray Cats released Rock this Town in 1981. I never really understood rockabilly, but do have to admit liking a few songs from them. They used a variety of cat names before settling on their final one.
Brian Setzer, Leon “Lee Rocker” Drucher, and Jim “Jim Phantom” McDonell originally performed under various names (the Tom Cats one week, the Bob Cats the next) in order to get hired at New York clubs reluctant to book the same act week after week. After moving to England, the three were always homeless and hungry so Lee dubbed them the Stray Cats.

Homeless and hungry. Maybe that’s what my stray was. He’s been gone for a little while now. I’m not too worried, though. It’s now springtime and I’m sure he is enjoying the weather somewhere else. Adios, amigos.

Well, my baby and me went out late Saturday night
I had my hair piled high and my baby just looked so right
Well-ell, pick you up at ten, gotta have you home at two
Mama don't know what I got in store for you
But that's all right, 'cause we're looking as cool as can be
Well, we found a little place that really didn't look half bad
I had a whiskey on the rocks, and changed half a dollar for the jukebox
Well-ell, I put a quarter right into that can, but all they played was disco, man
Come on, baby, baby, let's get out of here right away
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
We're gonna rock this town
Make 'em scream and shout
Let's rock, rock, rock, man, rock
We're gonna rock till we pop
We're gonna rock till we drop
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
(Rock it, rock right in!)
(Whoa!)
(Whoo!)
(Oh my god)
Whoo!
Well, we're having a ball just a-bopping on the big dance floor
Well, there's a real square cat, he looks a 1974
Well-ell, he looked at me once, he looked at me twice
Look at me again and there's a-gonna be fight
We're gonna rock this town
We're gonna rip this place apart
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
We're gonna rock this town
Make 'em scream and shout
Let's rock, rock, rock, man, rock
We're gonna rock till we pop
We're gonna rock till we drop
We're gonna rock this town
Rock this place apart
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
We're gonna rock this town
Make 'em scream and shout
Let's rock, rock, rock, man, rock
We're gonna rock till we pop
We're gonna rock till we drop
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
We're gonna rock this town
Rock it inside out
Whoo!
Hmm. A pet bot. That’s interesting. I notice that the daily prompts bring more views than usual.
I do like the Stray Cats. I have one named Nora.

When I got the 200 extra views on the same post a few days in a row, I figured something was up. I just password protected that post and locked the bot out.
We were thinking about getting a cat, but my wife is really allergic to them, so we passed. Cats have grown on me over the years. I used to only be a dog person. Turns out, cats have personalities, too!

Yeah, where do those strays come from, and what is their purpose? Should we feed them or let them go on their way?

Maybe a little bit of both

Forgot about these guys! Stray Cat Strut was good too. (I just took a look at that video too – their hair gel budget must have been huge!) Fun music – shades of Elvis

Hahaha… yeah, that’s funny! I can’t imagine how long it took to get that hair just right!

I saw the prompt on the Jetpack app this morning. and thought to myself, “I gotta see how My GenXerLife is going to tackle this one!” You did not disappoint; in fact you helped explain a weirdness that’s been going on my blog, too, with one old post in particular getting 107 views in the past week, 6 today already.
Great post, and an excellent, toe-tapping choice!

I had to Google to see what was going on. The bot was probably harmless, but thought I’d try to shut it down. I just password protected that post.
Yeah, the Stray Cats were fun. I think I had them on vinyl. I seemed to have misplaced my record collection. I need to hunt it down!

😂 Great post … And terrific choice of music. I was / am very much a Rockabilly fan, and Stray Cats brought a whole new raft if fans to the genre in the early 80s.

Your music taste are pretty diverse. So cool. I was one of those 80s kids that only dipped my toe into rockabilly when the Stray Cats came out. It was a cool vibe!

it was a weird time. I was into punk and Rockabilly@ the ‘revival’ time. I remember being chased by punks one night as I came off the train in Glasgow coz I was dressed in my college jacket and drainpipes etc.
I’d also get abuse from Teds who didn’t like my ripped cap sleeved T shirt and jeans if I was at a punk show.
Fortunately, I was a reasonably ok track / cross country athlete those days and easily outran my tormentors. 😂😂😂

As soon as I saw your post, I started singing Stray Cat Strut.

That’s a great song. I went back and forth on which song to choose. I totally forgot about these guys for years. They were a fun and unique band.
