I can find a way to occupy my time if I have to. That’s never a problem. I’m always able to find something to do at home, but if I’m feeling cooped up, I’ll easily jump in my car and to get out and about. I’m not afraid of doing things on my own. I used to do it all the time before I got married.
Do I ever think I’m wasting time? Not really. The only thing that I can think of that feels like wasting time is if I sleep in late. I never want to sleep the day away, especially on the weekends. If I wake up past 9:00, it feels like afternoon will be here in no time. Getting up at 6:30 guarantees a few good hours before the day starts. I never feel rushed when I get up at that hour.
Do I get enough sleep? Give me five solid hours of sleep and I’m good for the day. Anything more is gravy.
Tasmin Archer released Sleeping Satellites in 1992. Who would have thought this wasn’t a metaphor and actually about the space race.
This evocative song sounds like it could be about a broken relationship, but its meaning is much more literal. The “sleeping satellite” is the Moon, and the song is about how humans stopped going there in 1972 after the novelty wore off.
Once the “space race” was won by the United States, which landed a man on the moon in 1969 on the Apollo 11 mission, interest in lunar exploration waned – for many it was more about competition than discovery.
I wonder if NASA decided additional exploration after going to moon was a waste of time. Was it really about competition over discovery? I am curious why we stopped.

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite
Did we fly to the moon too soon
did we squander the chance
in the rush of the race
the reason we chase is lost in romance
and still we try
to justify the waste
for a taste of man's greatest adventure
I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite
have we lost what it takes to advance?
have we peaked too soon?
if the world is so green
then why does it scream under a blue moon
we wonder why
If the earth's sacrificed
for the price of it's greatest treasure
I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite
and when we shoot for the stars
what a giant step
have we got what it takes
to carry the weight of this concept
or pass it by like a shot in the dark
miss the mark with a sense of adventure
I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles' flight
blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite
It would be interesting to know why. It could have been political. Wasting money or some such. It was a turbulent time in the country.

Part of me thinks the natural progression would be research, a moon base or colonization. You may be right why it may have stopped. China recently landed on the moon. Maybe that will kickstart US exploration again.

BTW, I usually start playing the song in your posts before I read the post. It was still going when I completed my response. It was still going when I completed my response. Soothing.

That’s an interesting way to go about it. I like that. I’m glad you let me know. I typically write first then choose the song afterwards. At times, it gets challenging finding a song I like to pair with it, so sometimes the tie back can be a little stretched. I used to concern myself with the thinly connected song more, but then I thought, hey – I just like the song and it fits well enough. Sometimes I find a song and think, boy – that felt just right. It’s a mixed bag, but it’s a fun process. Thanks for reading and listening. I really appreciate it.

I’ve never heard this gorgeous song. She gives me some Seal vibes. Gorgeous voice. I would be a puddle of pudding on a regular diet of 5 hours of sleep.

I’m not sure where I first heard it. Chance are in the radio, yet I don’t remember it playing. I did have a few of her CDs in my collection and I’ve always really liked this song. And YES…. This has Seal vibes. That never occurred to me before but I think you are spot on!

I agree with you, I rarely ‘waste time’

I thinking keeping busy is never wasting time, even if it’s doing trivial things or guilty pleasures. It’s only wasting time if it gets in the way of doing necessary things.

I’m the opposite of you. I can waste an entire Saturday just because I love to stay up all night on Fridays. I binge watched Bridgerton season 3 last night. I can’t help it…that show is spicy. 😅

Talking about landing on the moon. I believe it was more a competition than a discovery. Maybe Elon Musk will surprise us soon with some of his discoveries.

I think you may be right about that.

I heard that is a good show! People have recommended it. I didn’t know it was spicy!

VERY spicy. However, it’s a good show. I love the diversity and the happy and beautiful prestigious lifestyle. Bridgerton is my guilty pleasure.
There are 3 seasons plus Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which is a separate show but I loved it. The story broke my heart but it was so good. Maybe you need to start with that one then Bridgerton season 1.
Please share with me your thoughts after you watch it. 😊

Ok interesting. I keep hearing about how good this is. I’ll take your advice and watch Queen Charlotte first. Thanks!

I am a pretty early riser, especially in summer when the light comes earlier. Fabulous song choice. I did not know this one and found it quite captivating! And the backstory adds to the appeal.

I’m not sure how I discovered her. I have a few of her CDs, not sure if I heard her on the radio or found her digging through used CD shopping back in the day. Glad you liked it.

Another great song. No idea it was hiding such depth!
As for sleep, I am at my best if I can stay in for 7 hours (always think of it like scuba diving or something), but that’s rarely the case.

7 hours seems to be the minimum target. That amount seems just about right. Hope you can get more sleep this year!

Cheers to that!

I never consider sleep a waste of time. Unfortunately, I cannot sleep in late anymore. My circadian rhythm is set at waking up at 4:30 am every day. I haven’t set an alarm in years! I always think I get eight hours of sleep each night, but my Fitbit says differently. It tracks how restless you are and how many minutes you wake up during the night. So, my net sleep is actually about six and half to seven hours. No wonder I have trouble staying awake at work!

Wow…4:30 is early! It must be quiet and peaceful then.

I’m the same way, I get stir crazy sometimes and just take off in my car. Are there places that you like to go or do?
On another note, I feel like I need to sleep like 9 hours but I blame it on the anemia LOL

I used to go hike the San Gabriel mountains, go to the Melrose trading post, go to a coffee house, farmers market or bookstore, explore dtla. I just needed to get out.
