What is your favorite genre of music?
Today is number 365. One year of daily prompts. There were times that I didn’t think I’d make it, but the will maintain the streak fueled me to find a way to write something, anything at times. It’s been a fun, challenging ride.
I used to think I mainly loved 80’s new wave or 90’s alternative rock. While this was true, this past year I also was reacquainted with the likes of John Denver, Glen Campbell, Carly Simon, Cat Stevens and Neil Diamond. Who would have thought I would enjoy connecting with their music as well. They’ve all made a home on my playlist. It just proves that good music has no boundaries.
Because I’ve come full circle on WordPress’ daily prompts, I’ll need to decide where to go from here. I don’t have any interest trying to complete the same prompts all over again. Where is the fun in that? Instead, I’ll take a short break and decide which direction to take.
Since the pathway is somewhat unknown, it makes sense I add a relatively unknown artist to the playlist. I discovered Ted Hawkins from a random compilation CD decades ago. I enjoyed the rasp in his voice from his song Green Eyed Girl.
Ted Hawkins (October 28, 1936 – January 1, 1995) was an American singer-songwriter born in Biloxi, Mississippi. He split his time between his adopted hometown of Venice Beach, California, where he was a mostly anonymous street performer, and Europe and Australia, where he and his songs were better known and well received in clubs and small concert halls.
Hawkins’ life was strewn with prison, drifting, odd jobs and medical institutions; however he remained connected to music. You have to respect that. It’s likely this may be your first time hearing Hawkins. I hope you enjoy this little known performer.
Again, many thanks for stopping by this past year. I appreciate it. Please enjoy the playlist and I’ll be back soon.

Green-eyed girl
Why don't you notice this brown-eyed boy
I'm having dreams of you
Green-eyed girl
Green eyed-girl
Let me do something that'll thrill me
to do
I want to touch you green-eyed girl
Green-eyed girl
The one with the mind that tick tock
like a clock
Love is the answer
Green-eyed girl
Green-eyed girl
Why don't you talk to this brown-eyed boy
Can I have you attention green-eyed girl
I can't help but notice you noticing me
watching me
You can't help but notice me noticing you noticing me
I wish I was here
Yesterday evening when you walked by
Nobody told me
Green-eyed girl
Green-eyed one
How you make it I just don't know
You work night and day for money to
give the poor
You're distant as Pluto
Colder than Saturn above
Stout-hearted girl
Cruel and mysterious
Soften your heart
To him who's serious
Green-eyed-girl
Mmm. My wife is a green eyed girl. Now I don’t have to change the lyrics to the Van Morrison song for her anymore. Congrats making it thru a year!😀

Enjoy the break but don’t forget to come back!
Checked out the song, it’s from the year I graduated from high school but nope, don’t recognize it.

Love today’s song! Warm, mellow tune with a soulful, raspy voice. I just added it to my playlist. 😊

Thanks for hanging out by the radio with me! I appreciated your take on the music. We discovered the 80’s bomb lyrics together! Will be back after a short commercial break…see you soon.

Congrats for your year – now follow your heart – write about whatever is taking up brain space. If music is your jam then do music – I like music oriented blogs – I’m always being introduced to new and wonderful (as well as just awful LOL). This endeavor should be fun and there are no rules – unless you make some for yourself. Looking forward to wherever this takes you. Cheers!

😩 now what will I read ? I’ll have to go back into your archives. It’s too bad they repeat the prompts. We’ll miss you during this hiatus.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the repeated prompts. I was hoping to slide back in after a short break. Maybe this will stretch my creativity. We will see.

Thanks for your kind words. Writing everyday had become a habit. It’s been a little strange not writing the past couple of days…
So glad to see your boat and dock coming along. Love the updates!

Congratulations on your one-year streak! It’s a big commitment to research, write, choose a song, and post every day.
It’s been fun following each other along the journey; thanks for supporting my blog. I’ve been too busy this week to spend much time on the computer so I’ll have to catch up on posts I missed, next week.
I look forward to seeing MGXL 2.0. Enjoy the break!

Thanks, Steve! It certainly was a challenge and a lot of fun along the way. I need to catch up on your blog as well. Your blog has kept me going during the year. Thank you for that! Much appreciated!

You’re welcome! Yes it is fun, though sometimes it can feel like an obligation, then you hit “publish,” and it’s all good again. I made it to about 540 before I took a break, feeling at the time like I was letting myself down and then realized that was kind of silly.
I’m honoured that you’ve followed mine for so long, and look forward to continuing our connection. And looking forward to posting after the busyness and chaos of home renovations blending into an international family visit and a son’s wedding. I’ve got a couple of posts germinating but they are on songs that are really pivotal and on which I have many thoughts. Those may take a while to write!

Posting every day is an amazing accomplishment! My favorite genres are post-punk and new wave, but I’ve been loving the current pop girls’ music lately. Isn’t it fun to get into different types of music now and then?
