I met an old friend for lunch. We worked together about 20 years ago. We catch up by phone every six months but it’s been forever since we met up. We finally met for lunch.
It’s funny seeing someone after a few decades. I recognized him, but didn’t at the same time. He gained a few pounds, turned slightly gray. Still a great guy and that’s something that hasn’t changed. I’m glad we met for burgers.
I laughed when he told me he went to a Men Without Hats concert. I didn’t know they were still around, let alone had enough material for an entire concert. I always thought of them as a one hit wonder band. Who knew they would still be touring.
It got me thinking about one hit wonders. It has such a negative connotation. But when you really think about it, God (or the universe) created each of us as our own one hit wonder. That’s something that should be celebrated. Yeah, maybe a stretch, but that’s what came to mind. I’ll stick with that.
Paste Magazine came out with the Top 50 Greatest One Hit Wonders. I was surprised that a few of artists were included on the list. In my opinion, Sixpence None the Richer shouldn’t be on that list. I know they have a number of other songs that I like in their catalogue. The only positive side to being included is me stumbling upon them today and now having Kiss Me on a loop in my head. I’ll take that as silver lining and enjoy it for a while.
This one of those magical songs that make you feel something or remember a memory that never existed.

Kiss me out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You'll wear those shoes and I will wear that dress
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me
Kiss me down by the broken tree house
Swing me, upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat
We'll take the trail marked on your father's map
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band, and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me
Kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band, and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me
So kiss me
So kiss me
So kiss me
Yeah I love that song…each our own one hit wonder, that is probably true!

I liked their name, too! I think they named themselves after a phrase in a book (?)

Love the group and the song! It’s now playing in my head.
I also agree that we are each created as a “one-hit wonder.” That’s nice to think about. 😊

It’s too catchy not to play in your head!

Distinctive feeling. I can’t think of anything else they really broke through with, so, a little sadly, see why they made the list.

Wasn’t the song a part of a popular TV series… that had Katie Holmes in it… hmmm… I’ll have to go think on it… great post, Linda xx

Yes, I think it made a few tv show appearances. Dawson’s Creek? It matches that genre
