My Gen X Playlist: Halah – Mazzy Star

This morning feels like a Mazzy Star morning. No words. A mood. A song. Nothing triggered it. I can’t blame it on anything. Not even the weather. Today is forecasted to be seventy fricken six degrees and sunny. In winter. I have no business feeling this way. Sometimes the day starts off feeling like the way it does. This particular morning, it feels like Mazzy.

So here is Halah. It’s grey and haunting and pairs well with this morning’s mood. The good thing is I know for certain this feeling is temporary. Today is Friday. There is nothing that a good weekend can’t cure.

I looked up the meaning of Halah. It means the halo around the moon. And what exactly is that?

The moon’s halo or lunar halo is an optical illusion that causes a large bright ring to surround the moon. This striking and often beautiful halo around the moon is caused by the refraction of moonlight from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.

How in the world can you be down after reading something as beautiful as that? Time to forcibly turn things around. I’ll just listen to Mazzy Star a few more times before I do. After all, I’m already here. I may as well enjoy the song a bit first. Afterwards I’ll find something like Kool and the Gang to flip the switch.
