It’s Sunday.
During my sabbatical from work, this day really didn’t have any significance. When you’re not working, everyday was Sunday. Or Saturday. Or moon-day. Or whatever in the world you wanted to call it. Nobody cared what crazy name you rename it. They’re too busy at work to even notice.
It’s an odd feeling not to experience the Sunday blues for so long. No, I didn’t miss it or go into withdrawals this past year. It became a distant memory. I knew one day it would come back, though. There is no hiding from it forever. It just patiently lurked in the shadows and waited me out.
Now that I’m back in corporate America, it’ll probably return at some point. One day, it’ll follow me home, slip in the back door undetected. Someday we’ll sit across from each other, say our long time no sees and catch up. But for now, that moment hasn’t arrived and right now I’m having a cup of coffee at my favorite coffee house enjoying the slow drip of Sunday. I don’t mind our reunion is delayed. I’m in no hurry. There are plenty of other Sundays we can catch up. This Sunday morning is for enjoying a hot, delicious cup of coffee, good music overhead and soaking up the feeling of a lazy Sunday morning.
Here’s a song from the Sundays. Here’s Where the Story Ends’ always makes me feel good. I love that jangly melody. Looks like I’m not the only one.
I’m kind of a manly man, on the outside, but everything just seems brighter while listening to this song.

I feel like…this is the kind of music that plays in Heaven. Tones of innocence and childhood. First loves. Dreams we’ve long forgotten. Her voice. The vibe. Ethereal, happy, and yearning. A precious moment in time that can last forever.

One of those perfect songs that will always be just as good as the first time you heard it.

People I know, places I go
Make me feel tongue tied
But I can see how people look down
They're on the inside
Here's where the story ends
People I see, weary of me
Showing my good side
I can see how people look down
I'm on the outside
Here's where the story ends
Ooh, here's where the story ends
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh, I never should have said the books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
It's the memories of your shed that make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise
Crazy I know, places I go
Make me feel so tired
And I can see how people look down
I'm on the outside
Oh, here's where the story ends
Ooh, here's where the story ends
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
And who ever would've thought the books that you brought
Were all I loved you for
Oh, the devil in me said, "Go down to the shed"
I know where I belong
But the only thing I ever really wanted to say
Was wrong, was wrong, was wrong
It's that little souvenir of a colorful year
Which makes me smile inside
So I cynically, cynically say the world is that way
Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise
Here's where the story ends
Ooh, here's where the story ends
That’s a good song

I don’t miss that Sunday feeling. Nice song choice… I’ve heard this somewhere recently. Your post title made me think you were shutting down your blog!

The Sundays were a great band back in the day. Harriet Wheeler had a great voice and the band had a good vibe. Here is another good one – Summertime.

Great, too! Makes me want to rent a convertible for the day and just drive around Miami. 🙂
