My uncle is visiting for a few weeks. He lives in Northern California and comes down every few years. He doesn’t leave the Bay Area that often, so it’s a nice change of scenery for him.
I remember when I lived abroad, it always was nice to receive mail from friends or family. With that in mind, we started sending my uncle holiday cards. It started out with the usual Christmas card. Then we thought we would surprise him on a few random holidays: St. Patrick’s day, Thanksgiving, Halloween. Who knew Hallmark made cards for any of these occasion. We now only send him random holiday cards. It’s become a running joke that we share.
I looked up random holidays and was surprised to find this list. OK, this is getting a little out of hand. There cannot be a holiday for every day of the year. I’m sure Hallmark doesn’t have a card for all occasions.
Mary G, you once asked if Madonna made the playlist. And yes, this would have been the perfect segue to include Holiday, I know. I was about to add her song, then remembered Don’t Try to Stop It by Roman Holiday. This was an early 80’s song that I loved in high school. That’s probably the last time I heard it, too. Roman Holiday was relatively popular in the UK, not so much in the US. They are going to bump Madonna for now. I have faith that her music will have another opportunity down the road.

Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Driving out in the morning light
Tapping a beat on the wheel
The radio's broken but I don't mind
It's just the way I feel
We're driving out on a motorway tonight
On a ten stop
One star
Three chord wonderland
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
I ain't been home all week
Or changed my shirt today
I ain't stopped singing
The phone keeps ringing
Soon be on my way
We're driving out on a motorway tonight
On a ten stop
One star
Three chord wonderland
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
And all I see is night
And endless motorways
Pizzas and people
But I'm bored on my free days
Don't try to stop it
Don't try to stop it
Got a call from a girl last night
I had to tell her no
It's not that I don't want her here
But I've gotta go
Oh man! Madonna is getting bumped by Roman Holiday?!? I have absolutely no recollection of that band (but I do like the “fleet week” vibes in the video).
I respect your process, but eagerly await the first Madonna song to be added to the playlist. Big decision for you. According to Alexa, Madonna has sold 300M records.

Whoa…300M? That’s insane. I really liked her early stuff the best.

Totally—her early stuff is just so 80s! Into the Groove?

That holiday list is amazing! I’m going to use it sometime just for fun! I’ve got the perfect holiday on my birthday. 🤩

Hm, totally unknown song and group, but catchy enough. 🙂 Now I’ll be looking out for Madonna.hehe

Yep, I figured this song might be a little obscure!

That’s such an interesting list. I’m still stuck with Nothing Day, since nothing more can be made up is it 🤣.

Can’t say I’m sorry you bumped Madonna (*ducks flying objects*), and I thoroughly enjoyed this (new to me) band/song. The beginning evoked memories of Stray Cats, but then it evolved into much more. Sad that they weren’t more popular here in the states.

I’m glad you mentioned that because I was thinking the same thing when I listened to it again. Totally a stray cats vibe in the beginning.
