When I was on sabbatical, I discovered a coffee roaster by chance. I was running errands and was looking for a place to chill between appointments. I stumbled upon this place and fell in love with the vibe. I’ve mentioned on this blog that I’ve always wanted to open my own coffee house. If I did, it would look similar to this one.
It’s a few cities away, but I find I still frequent it on a lazy Sunday morning, when I need to escape the work from home drudgery or to process life stress. It’s a place where I can write, read or listen to music and leave feeling both balanced and rested at the same time. Their homemade pastries seem to help, too.
It just occurred to me that I answered this question a year ago with a similar response – except that was a place from my twenties and this place is in my fifties. I’m nothing, if not consistent. I eventually lost that one and after a thirty year drought, gained this replacement. Full circle.
I’ve already chosen a few songs about circles and I try not to repeat them. But I’m feeling a little melancholy this morning and Edie Brickell & New Bohemians’ Circle seemed to fit with the whole coffee house theme.
This gentle song is so coffee-shop friendly that the video was shot in a coffee shop, where the band is shown performing it.
I don’t know how long I’ll frequent this place. It may lose its luster, I may move away or my season may change. Nothing lasts forever, so I’ll just enjoy this place while I can. As the lyrics say,
Everything is temporary anyway
And I’m OK with that. My guess is I’ll find another place to hang. Or better yet, that new place finds me. Either way, the circle continues.

Me, I'm a part of your circle of friends
And we notice you don't come around
Me, I think it all depends on you
Touching ground with us but
I quit, I give up, nothing's good enough for anybody else
It seems
And I quit, I give up, nothing's good enough for anybody else
It seems
And being alone is the, is the best way to be
When I'm by myself it's the best way to be
When I'm all alone it's the best way to be
When I'm by myself, nobody else can say goodbye
Everything is temporary anyway
When the streets are wet, the colors slip into the sky
But I don't know why that means you and I are
That means you and I
I quit, I give up, nothing's good enough for anybody else
It seems
Now I know where to find you in California…on a Sunday. 💡😁

Any time I see any reference to Edie Brickell I laugh…it’s a long story but seeing the reference gave me my first laugh of the day…

I like Edie. She was bohemian and cool. Glad you got a little laugh. Always a great way to start the day.

Love this! It never occurred to me to describe a place.
I think you should open your own coffee shop! It could fund your retirement while giving you an outlet to socialize.

I’d end up eating all the pastries and drinking the profits!

I never really gave this much thought until my 50’s. Perspective, you know?
