My Gen X Playlist: Down by the Water – PJ Harvey

    1. I think the important thing is the connection, it doesn’t have to be sports. I see some connect through cooking, others through art or music. And I see that and think how special. My parents liked sports and it was probably easier tiring out 4 kids running around than having us bounce off walls and driving them crazy.

  1. My family as a whole was never really into sports, though my older brothers seemed more sporty than I was. Interesting song… one of the commenters thought it looked like a nightclub scene from a David Lynch film. That tracks. PJ is pretty cool.

  2. Our thing growing up was baseball in the culdesac… everybody had a few acres, so plenty of room for crushing one and kids running after a fly ball looking over their shoulders with no worries about busted windows.

Football, too…full contact as someone’s mom looked through the kitchen window, smiling. No protective gear. Everybody had irrigated lawns with these round concrete things that supported the sprinkler heads every 10’… so getting tackled almost always meant a knee, elbow or head landing on one with some kid on top of you …owwww… Good times 🤕😣😂

Basketball was mostly “horse” or one-on-one…again, full contact, no refs, lots of blatent fouls, elbows, getting knocked backwards onto the asphalt … more owwwwws…😂 Amazing we survived… 😆
