We had dinner with friends last weekend and learned both are now retired. Wow! What a surprise.
I caught up with a former co-worker yesterday and learned he retired two years ago. I’ve never heard him sound so relaxed.
Next month we are celebrating a good friend’s retirement in Vegas. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a guy’s trip. What a perfect occasion to celebrate.
I was telling a friend that I genuinely feel happy when I hear people are retiring. After three decades of work, they all deserve some R&R. I’m still working towards it, but know I’m going to jump for joy walking out that last time.
Any excuse to play the Sundays, I’m in. Here’s Joy. I think this one is an acquired taste, though. I wasn’t particularly fond of it the first few times I listened it. Back then, I pushed play on Sunday’s CDs and listened from front to back and this song grew on me over time. If it’s not your cup of tea, I totally get it.

Me, i cringe when i hear about retirement lol…a close friend who is a few years older than me has her retirement date set for next year and i’m like how is that possible?!?!?! We are still in our 30’s are we not?

I can relate. I have quite a few friends who are retired. I think the key to enjoying retirement is finding something you love to keep you busy, or give you a purpose. Volunteering, joining a pickleball league, being a greeter at Walmart? My Dad drove courtesy cars for a dealership and enjoyed the conversation on the drive. My Mom did all kinds of brain puzzles to keep her mind sharp.

I planned my retirement from the age of 45, 10 years and counting. The countdown didn’t quite go as planned because I met my husband when I was 52 but I still retired at 55. The initial adaptation was hard and Covid definitely didn’t help but I think I’ve got it down now and enjoy the freedom it gives.
My husband reminds me all the time ” you worked really hard in your career, 50-60 hrs a week, with two children and for 13 years as a single parent, you deserve this time off, don’t ever forget that!
