When I was in my twenties, this never crossed my mind. Ever. This seemed to be a topic for mature adults, not twenty somethings trying to have fun.
In my thirties, I was too busy working and building a career. Surely there would be time for such things after I was older and wiser.
I brushed up against the topic in my forties. By then, I was too busy adulting. There was no time to think of such esoteric questions. I had life to address and bills to pay.
Now that I’m in my fifties, the thought has crossed my mind from time to time. It makes me wonder if I wasted too much time working rather than living or being too preoccupied about the small things in life. It feels like focusing on making it through the day swallowed too much of my energy and attention. And this may sound like regret, but it’s not. They’re only thoughts out loud. I can’t complain how life has turned out. It’s not perfect, but nothing really is. We all try to navigate through the waters as best as we can.
So, the meaning of life? No clue, if I’m being perfectly honest. Ask me in ten years when I’m in my sixties. I think by then I may have a better grip on life. Or maybe not. Only time will tell.
I was searching for songs about the meaning of life. AI suggested U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. I love this song, but it’s already on the playlist. Here is a cool gospel version that I occasionally return to when I need my fix.
That sent me down a U2 rabbit hole looking for cool acoustic versions and I found myself at one of my favorite clips of Stuck in a Moment with Bono and Edge performing on Letterman. I’m amazed at talent that sounds so good without any technology to clean things up. You gotta love the harmonizing with Edge hitting those high notes at the end.
I still haven’t found a song that answers that big question about the meaning of life. Perhaps there is meaning in the search, no matter how small. It doesn’t have to be the be all, end all big answer. I’ll take sprinkles of meaning here and there to balance out my own recipe. Sometimes it’s more about the journey and less about the ultimate find in the end.

I'm not afraid
Of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me
That I haven't already heard
I'm just trying to find
A decent melody
A song that I can sing
In my own company
I never thought you were a fool
But darling look at you
You gotta stand up straight
Carry your own weight
These tears are going nowhere, baby
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
I will not forsake
The colors that you bring
The nights you filled with fireworks
They left you with nothing
I am still enchanted
By the light you brought to me
I listen through your ears
Through your eyes I can see
And you are such a fool
To worry like you do
I know it's tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you don't really need now
My, oh my
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Oh love, look at you now
You've got yourself stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
I was unconscious, half-asleep
The water is warm 'til you discover how deep
I wasn't jumping, for me it was a fall
It's a long way down to nothing at all
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if our way should falter
Along this stony pass
And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if your way should falter
Along this stony pass
It's just a moment
This time will pass
Two songs to me about the meaning of life: Life is shit by The Dead Milkman & Always look on the bright side of life by Eric Idle.

That sent down a rabbit hole. I only knew Punk Rock Girl by them. Thanks for the intro of the song to me.

Yeah life is shit was on the same album as punk rock girl. I was a fan of TDM when my friend played me their song Bitchin’ Camaro from 4 years prior in 1984

That version of I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For (I think it’s from Rattle and Hum with the Harlem based New Voices of Freedom choir) is so good. As for the meaning of life, we’re all curious, and we’re all cursed/blessed to find out one way and one way only, there’s no shortcuts.

The Meaning of Life, in my opinion, is definitely different for everyone.
This is a quote from a longer post I wrote:
“It might be that during your earthly adventure if you give it some time and thought your beliefs will show themselves and like me you will find peace in knowing where you sit in this vast universe and on this great journey that is life.”
I hate advertising my own posts in response to other peoples’ but this is actually a subject I have thought about in that I live by my own Personal Mantras
