What’s a movie you expected to hate but ended up loving?

I was surprised I liked Moneyball so much. At the time, I wasn’t a baseball fan. I used to think the sport was too slow to watch. Later I would learn I just didn’t understand or appreciate it. I’m surprised I watch as much baseball as I do now.

Was I a Brad Pitt fan? I thought he was a pretty good actor, but I was only a lukewarm fan. Later I would watch Fury and find myself coming around.

Although I wasn’t expecting to hate it, I wasn’t expecting to latch on to it either. Why did I like the movie so much? Maybe because I love the fallen hero story and a story about redemption. We’ve all had our own falls and know what it feels like to be knocked down to our knees. It’s hard not to root for the comeback.

I can watch this movie anytime and never get tired of it. It’s easily made my top ten list. Who would have thought.

Seems fitting to add a song from the soundtrack, even if it’s a repeat on my playlist. I first heard the song as Pitt’s character shares a tender moment with his daughter. I later looked up the song and learned it’s called The Show, by Lenka. I’d never heard of her before, but parts of the lyrics fit the storyline pretty well. Enjoy.

  2. i’m a big baseball guy and this is definitely one of my favorite baseball movies, for all the reasons you mentioned.

    In fact, this is one of those movies that’s on my “drop everything on watch” list. If I walk into a room and it’s on, I may as well clear my schedule for the next couple hours.

    It just sucks to me that Oakland fans never got their real life happy ending.

  3. I do not understand baseball at all but on my husband’s bucket list are many sporting “must do’s” which included watching the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, an experience that we fulfilled on what turned into a cold, windy night in June 2023.
    We have since watched this movie and I have to say despite my lack of knowledge I loved it! I guess I’m a sucker for rooting for the underdog, the person that wants to change the norm! Brad Pitt in the lead was a great help because I felt I could trust his judgement. The “Oceans” films are some of my favourite repeatable movies.
    His latest stint in F1 was a cinema favourite this year thus far!

  5. I completely forgot about that movie! I remember I watched it a long time ago. I think I need to watch it again because I don’t remember it that much.
    Brad Pitt is one of my favorite actors. Did you watch F1? I think you’ll like it. It was a good movie if you like F1, NASCAR, etc.
