Even though I live near Hollywood, my life is nowhere close to being a blockbuster storyline. There have been a few times when there may have been the beginnings of a movie plot. Just the beginning, though, thank goodness. Here are a few story pitches from my life.
Brain Surgery – Although everything turned out fine, I can think of a few horror movie plots that could take shape. I keep thinking about the dripping sound in my head that occasionally came and went for a few months. What a crazy after effect of brain surgery. I need Stephan King to make that tidbit into a doozy.
Running with the Bulls – My buddy and I backpacked through Europe after college. We specifically went to Pamplona to run with the bulls. We drank all night straight up to the run in the morning and surprisingly made the wise decision not to run in our drunken state. We’ve carried the regret of not running for decades. We need a film about two fifty year old Gen Xers returning to Pamplona to erase the regret that haunts them.
Lightening in the Skies – When our plane shook violently, we knew something was wrong. Over the loud speaker, the pilot asked if there was a doctor on board. We started to get nervous. It turns out our plane was struck by lightning.
A Bear – I was alone hiking as the sun was coming up. When I rounded the corner, I stopped in my tracks. As did he. We stood staring at each other for 10 seconds, but it felt like eternity. I slowly backed up around the bend until he was out of sight and then ran like hell. Fortunately, it wasn’t a Leo DiCaprio experience. That would have ruined my day. Needless to say, I didn’t tell my wife. Some things are better kept to myself.
I was thinking about movie soundtracks of the 90’s. I was a big fan of the Reality Bites soundtrack. Here is Spin the Bottle by The Juliana Hatfield Three. She was a new to me artist when I bought the CD and I honestly don’t know much about her after that. But I did like this song.
How did a 28-year-old woman capture the exact feeling of having a teenage crush? That’s the spell indie-pop wizards The Juliana Hatfield Three cast with their 1995 hit “Spin the Bottle.” A generation of young lovers sang along to this wink-nudge song—singer and guitarist Juliana Hatfield’s kittenish, silvery vocals made listeners feel like any desperate longing could easily come true.
I’ve never played spin the bottle and only thought it was a party game depicted in movies. Am I wrong? Was it really a thing? Leave a comment if you ever played it.
He's a movie star, only drives rented cars.
Met him in a bar, said "I know who you are."
Took him to my party as the games were starting.
Bottle's on the ground. Are you ready now?
When it comes to me, I'm gonna be ready.
It's my turn in a minute, gonna put my message in it.
Five minutes in the closet with you.
He's in a bunch of movies, really stupid movies.
It's not entirely his fault, he can't control it all.
I am not afraid. I can hardly wait.
Truth or dare, I don't care. Tell the truth I dare you.
When it comes around, when it comes around,
When it comes around, when it comes around.
Do you feel it too, what I feel for you?
If it was just us, would you do what I do?
Doo-de-doo-doo. Doo-de-doo-doo.
Doo-de-doo-doo. Doo-de-doo-doo.
Everybody's watching. Everybody's looking.
She's such a sucker. He don't want to f*ck her.
He is gonnna kiss me, if he doesn't miss me.
I am ready for it now. Already on the ground.
Five minutes in the closet with you.
Oooh! Five minutes in the closet with you.
Spin it 'round again. Spin it 'round again.
Spin it 'round again. Spin it 'round again.
Spin it 'round again. Spin it 'round again.
Spin it 'round again. Spin it 'round again
