  1. I don’t know where I would be without music! It’s the soundtrack to my life. I like how you find obscure covers of songs and songs I’ve never heard before. Thank you for sharing them with the rest of us.

  2. Oh wow that Landslide/Everywhere mashup was just amazing! I was just telling my son the other day that when I was his age, my favorite thing was a radio and that I’d listen to music more than watch TV during the day – not that we had any programming interesting enough for a teen then since everything was at night and we all watched it together on the only TV in the house with rabbit ears and the “get up and change the channel” remote control version then lol

      1. It’s definitely a life our kids have no idea about. We’ve now become our parents as we talk about “back in our day…” or “when I was your age…”

A local radio station plays Casey Kasem’s top 40 every Sunday and last week they played the hits from the week of Jan 23, 1980, and it was scary that I knew every song!

      2. It certainly brought all the memories back! My first official job while in college was at a pop radio station as a newscaster and I’d work Sundays where they’d play the tapes in the afternoon. Listeners had no clue that it was from weeks earlier (I lived in the Philippines then) and taped so they’d call hoping to speak with Casey.

      3. Back then I didn’t have plans to go into broadcasting. My major was Journalism and the head DJ was one of our professors. They had this contest one summer searching for a newscaster and on a dare me and my boyfriend joined and I was one of the two they picked to join the station. It was patterned after American radio stations so you had to be fluent and not have a strong local accent which worked in my favor since my stepdad was American and I got a lot of practice listening to Radio America with him and singing Broadway songs.

Upset my mom so much because in the Philippines, you don’t work while you’re in school, not if your parents can afford to pay for your education (“what will people think?”) but my dad was thrilled that I got a job that didn’t involve him pulling strings 😅

I stayed there for 2 years and after graduation, I thought I could apply for a TV newscaster position but since the position involved speaking in the local dialect (Visayan or Cebuano), I wasn’t fluent at all. Also turned out I have a face for radio 😂😂

      4. What a cool unique experience. Sounds like you were meant to be a storyteller, whether it’s telling the news or with your published books. Good for you for following your passion. That’s great.
